The Eagles still hold the cards. While they usually don't tend to block assistants trying to work their way up the ladder, the only way St. Louis can court Shurmur is if they get permission. They aren't known to have yet.

Permission just seems like a matter of paperwork. It doesn't seem like permission gets denied often.

Shurmur is under contract. They need permission or it would be considered tampering. With most organizations it's just a formality and permission is granted.Quote:

Truth is right, Ferter. It's an NFL policy that if a coach is under contract, you have to get the team's permission to speak with them. We did the same thing for all of our head coaching prospects. Generally the only way to bring in someone from another team is to somehow give them a promotion, such as a position coach to a coordinator position, or give an assistant head coach job to a really good position coach, but it's not unheard of for a team to allow a lateral move either. I remember reading in Tony Dungy's book about when he took over the Buccaneers that he was able to get a couple of lateral moves from the division rival Saints even.
The good news is that we have a new Headcoach and he will be bringing in a new group of coaches to assist him.
The bad news is that this will be the 3rd time in 4 years that our offensive has to learn a new system. We will need to be patient once again.

Conversely, a system like Gruden and Andy Reid have run have been said to be extremely difficult to learn. Just the verbiage is difficult. I've heard QB's say it took them a long time just to learn how to call a play correctly in it, let alone feel natural playing in it. And they have a lot of different packages for audibles and no huddle, etc. as well.
Linehan said he never even got to install his full system in St. Louis. He never fully got the no huddle package in because they hadn't fully digested the other stuff yet.
Plus, who thinks the Bill Walsh system with the ***** wasn't complicated? It was very diverse. All pro offenses are these days.
Well, I for one am a little iffy on this one. I get to see the Eagles quite a bit here in Austin as they play the NFC East on TV as much as possible, and for those of you who are expecting more of a ground game you might want to think twice. The Eagles throw just as much if not more than the Rams do. Not saying Shurmur would but the Eagles do sling it.
First off I am new to the board,but I have been a Rams fan for 25 years. Second, I live in Philly and would like to remind people that Brad Childress worked under Reid as well and his offense is considered TO conservative. Reid is why the Eagles throw so much
