Josh Brown to visit Rams
Scout.com: Chiefs ready to cut more veterans
Read last sentence>
ight end Kris Wilson, wide receiver Samie Parker, kick returner Eddie Drummond, center Casey Wiegmann, tackle Kyle Turley, linebacker Keyaron Fox and cornerback Benny Sapp are all free agents and will not be pursued by the Chiefs. Turley was reportedly ready to hang it up this offseason, but isn’t officially retired just yet.
Defensive tackle Ron Edwards, who signed a four-year contract last offseason, will also be cut. Guard Chris Bober was cut Thursday.
Up in the air at the moment is the status of two players currently under contract – quarterback Damon Huard and safety Greg Wesley.
Huard, who inked a three-year deal before the 2007 season, was mentioned as a possible cut earlier this week, but no decision has been made. The same is true with Wesley, who was dangled as trade bait last offseason.
In other Chiefs news:
• Offensive tackle Will Svitek, another notable name on KC’s list of restricted free agents, was offered a one-year tender of $905,000 by the Chiefs.
• Warpaint Illustrated was not able to confirm if fullback Boomer Grigsby, also a restricted free agent, had been offered a one-year deal as of Thursday.
• As of Thursday afternoon, there were no contract talks between the Chiefs and Jared Allen's agent, Ken Harris. There was a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press that indicated the Chiefs may be shopping Allen for a potential trade. UPDATED NOTE 12:30 AMThe Tampa Bay Bucs put a crunch in the Chiefs offseason plan by signing Jeff Faine to a six-year $44 million contract.
• As we first reported on our premium forum earlier this week, the Chiefs are pursuing former New Orleans center Jeff Faine and former Seattle kicker Josh Brown. They will visit Kansas City on Friday or Saturday.
According to our NFL source, Faine desires a contract that would make him one of the highest paid centers in the NFL. He recently turned down a last-ditch, long-term contract offer from the Saints. He is the top-rated center in free agency at the moment.
Per that same source, there are three teams in the hunt for Faine - the Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis Rams. The Bucs have told incumbent starter John Wade he won't be retained and are hoping to get Faine back home. He attended Sanford Seminole High before playing his college ball at Notre Dame.
The Chiefs are hopeful that they'll also get the first opportunity to sign Brown, but he was scheduled to visit with the St. Louis Rams before coming to Kansas City.

Re: Josh Brown to visit Rams
It would be nice to have Brown, but IIRC he wants to be the highest paid kicker in the league.

Re: Josh Brown to visit Rams
I would like seeing Brown hitting those clutch last second kicks to win us games instead of to beat us.

Re: Josh Brown to visit Rams
I would like it. I would rather have a proven kicker than take my chances on a rookie or unproven kicker, at least for right now.

And Brown would become our top KO coverage guy.

Re: Josh Brown to visit Rams
The other interesting thing to get pulled from this article is the tidbit about the Rams being in the running for Faine, too.
That's both Faine and Faneca who we appear to be making a run at. I wouldn't cry if either of them became a Ram.
