Josh McDaniels talks up Bradford and Jackson

BY JIM THOMAS | Posted: Tuesday, January 18, 2011 9:34 pm

New Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels says he plans to build the St. Louis offense around quarterback Sam Bradford AND running back Steven Jackson.

"We'll hope to build around those two guys and do the best we can going forward with our offensive system," McDaniels said.

McDaniels had a pass-happy reputation in Denver, with the Broncos running the ball only 39 percent of the time this season.

"I'm looking forward certainly to working with everybody there," McDaniels told the Post-Dispatch on Tuesday evening. "Sam's an extremely talented player....He's a very accurate guy. Does a lot of things in the pocket well. Does things out of the pocket well. We'll hope to take the things that he did well this year and try to build on ‘em as he goes into his second year."

    As for Jackson?

"Steven is a guy that I've admired for a long time," McDaniels said. "He's a versatile guy. He runs downhill and gets the hard yards. Takes care of the football very well, which is obviously important in our game. And he's got the opportunity and the ability to take it the distance when he touches the football."

If this doesn't get you fired up, then your wood is wet.

As Bart Scott so eloquently put it,

    "CAN'T WAIT!"

I can assume he'll utilize Jackson as a receiver more often and hopefully, this'll open up the running game where he can average 10-15 YPC.

10-15 YPC? That would be a hell of an opening of the run game.

I hope you mean yards per catch.

Well at least McDaniels has figured out that Bradford and Jackson are the guys to build the offense around. That's a step in the right direction.

Like torching my former team at home, for one.

In all seriousness, I'm glad he's on board, and I'm certainly excited to see what he can get out of our players. I have a feeling someone is going to emerge as our "Brandon Lloyd" from the group.

I want to see an aggressive team but the offensive. I believe that with we will have it to MCDaniels. I do not like me to see the offensive run in 3 and long these 2 years past.
