It just hit me like a ton of bricks!

If Torry Holt is in fact sent packing one way or another. Which seems to be very acceptable by the Clan, myself included. (SCARY!) According to our current roster (2/17/09) that would leave us with Avery, Burton, Bennett, Looker, Stanley and Travis Brown?, Jeol Filani?, Nate Jones????? (SCARY!)

That's a very thin group of WRs in my opinion.

Devaney is going to need to pull a rabbit out his hat!!!!! Or a CRABTREE?

HAHAHA I love this post. I felt the same way when I first thought of Holt leaving. I never thought I'd say this but it's for the best. And as for our WR situation. I wouldn't mind seeing Crabtree play with us. But I have been doing alot of looking into Avery and I am really starting to warm up to him alot more than I was a month ago.

Rams go OT in Round 1, WR's should be available in Round 2.

The following will probably be there when the Rams step up in Round 2

    Brian Robiskie
    Derrick Williams
    Darrius Heyward-Bey

and these two should be solid WR's and could be had in Round 3

    Patrick Turner
    Quan Cosby

Bennett got cut today too. So it drops even more.

This is why I say Holt should remain on the team. I don't think we have a player who can replace him...

Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Yes Bennett was released today so if Torry is next, that leaves us with:
    Avery
    Burton
    Looker
    Stanley

It would seem that we are going to draft Crabtree

Even with Holt on that list of WR's we will still have a depleted group of WR's. So if releasing Holt will create 10 million of money to spend I'm all for it. I am a firm believer that you can find quality productive WR's in the middle to late in draft. If Devanny has the eye we should be able to find a guy.. Sammy Struoghter from oregon St. and Austin Collie from BYU ( both Sacramento area products ) should be available in rounds 3-6, IMO both of these guys could play the slot and be productive in their rookie seasons.

I have faith in Avery. I really wasn't too impressed with Holt this past season or his attitude. I still want Holt off the books or his contract renegotiated.

There seems to be a couple of names that are floating around that late first round, early second round range. The Rams should have a shot at a capable receiver in the second if they pass on Crabtree in the first.

That said, I think Heyward-Bey may have played himself into the first round after a good combine. To me, he was already a borderline first round pick, and I think his workout solidified that.

I'm not sure he'd be a good compliment to Avery though, even if he were available. Both of them are deep threats with top speed, I'd rather see the Rams add someone a bit bigger, more physical. Guys like Hakeem Nicks and maybe Kenny Britt could be available at the top of round two, and I think either of them would be good options opposite of Avery.

The Rams will likely also add a free agent in the mix, probably a cheap veteran that fits the mold of what they're looking for in their new offensive scheme.

Crabtree should be drafted. None of the O linemen are worthy of a 2nd overall pick.
