Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports unrestricted free-agent LB Isaiah Kacyvenski (Rams) participated in the Oakland Raiders' minicamp as a tryout player.

Why have we not signed him?

Where are they planning on using him?

From all accounts, he's basically a 'special teamer' and, while some could argue the point, we are pretty well set at linebacker, with Coakley, Draft and Alston as backups.

Although having said this, it's not like we're overloaded with special teams talent, even though I think Linehan has brought in position players who also play well on STs.

Kacyvenski would have been service-able back up for `spoon aswell as special teams demon....coakley is gone BTW!

I have a feeling Kacyvenski was nothing more than us trying to get an inside scoop on the Seahawks D...too bad it didn't help.

We're probably just making room for the youngsters. Draft is supposed to be the primary backup for all three positions I believe. Then we've got Raonall Smith, McGarigle, and Alston. If we want to bring those guys along in their development, we probably don't want to give reps to a 30 year old special teams guy.
