Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
Caveat to this post. Kendricks currently has zero receptions in the nfl. Preseason can be very misleading in terms of actual NFL game performance.
That being said, i don't believe that there was a single person on this board (nick included) that thought that we would take a tight end in round 2 and i do not recall seeing anyone pick kendricks as a guy that we might want that high. Our other needs were evident and Hoomaningainjury looked strong as a rookie last year.
Meanwhile, at this point, name a player who was selected after Kendricks that if you had to do it over again, knowing everything else you know now (including yet more injuries to Hoominangninga), that you would rather have seen the Rams take with our second round pick. I personally can not name one.
I think Kendricks is going to be a difference maker for the Rams now and for years to come.

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
I was dead wrong about him. - Once again outsmarted by Dspags / MCD
(although i am still against taking both pettis / salas, not a knock on either of them, but I would have only taken one)

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
Kendricks is so far ahead of the curve it's scary, scary good. He is going to pay huge dividends. A brilliant draft choice that had me asking why on draft day. Now I know why.

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
I, like many others, panned the Kendricks pick when I first saw it on TV. And from what I've heard so far this guy is (potentially) the real deal. I still, however, am watching to see what the guy I wanted at that pick- Steven Paea- will do for the Chicagoland Bears.
The other choices I was considering in the second round are as follows:
1.) Marvin Austin
2.) Stephen Wisniewski
3.) D'Quan Bowers
4.) Mikel Leshoure
At this point in time it appears that Mr. Kendricks is outdoing them all.

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
Y'know, you'd be surprised.
When we did the ClanRam Scouts Mock in March and early April, VegasRam actually had the Rams' second round pick and selected tight end Kyle Rudolph for the Rams. The reaction was a bit mixed, but it's fun to go to the Discussion thread for that group mock and see the comments about the Rams' possibility of taking a tight end in round two.
I think a couple of us recognized that a tight end could be a dark horse possibility, but having said that, Kendricks was not a name that stood out among pre-draft second round discussion here. I think you're absolutely right in saying few if any projected Kendricks as being that guy, and I don't think his name even appeared in most of my two round mock drafts.
Whether it was a lack of attention due to the position or a disagreement in value, he simply wasn't on many people's radar. So far, we should all be glad that he was on the Rams'.

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
For me, I am cautiously optimistic that finally we have a TE to be reckoned with. This guy looks like real deal and will be a huge weapon if all goes well. Last time we had a guy that was dependable at TE was Ernie C.

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
He's my TE sleeper pick in ff and I never select Rams players as a rule, but viewing the on the filed chemistry (albeit preseason). I honetly think if he and sam can stay healthy 8-10 tds is not a stretch by any means. Drinking lots of koolaide today.

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
I have to say, that when Kendricks was picked i was surprised that they went with a TE, but i also wanted to take a wait-and-see approach with him, for a couple of reasons:
1) I trusted the FO with the second round pick after hitting on guys like Laurinaitis and Saffold
2) I liked what i had readon Kendricks and his hands
Now, i know it's early, and we are only going on preseason, but i'm guessing that when its all said and done, if you were to re-do this draft, you would see Kendricks taken as a first rounder

Re: Kendricks- Further analysis of the pick
This pick is exactly why I don't second guess the men that get paid to make these calls.(Excluding Linehan)
While i thought a TE was a bit odd, seeing that we had other areas that needed more security, i figured Mcd saw something special in him.
