Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
Donnie Avery: why are so many quick to judge him? The Top rated reciever in the draft, (Devin Thomas) had one year of production and experts say that he is better? i go by production and donnie to me was the better reciever. some say limas sweed, but he is coming off of a rist injury. mario manningham, he lied straight up to evey NFL team, that to me is a NO NO and i wouldnt touch this guy. James Hardy Is another reciever projected to go ahead of Avery, to me he is another version of drew bennett, the height and the speed are comparable, why draft a guy who you almost already have? so you may or may not agree with me, but week 1 when he tears it up in the slot, while I am not saying he will be the next Isaac bruce or anything, I do think he has the ability to be a Ram Great. Thats My opinion.

Good job Josh!
You managed to state your case without disparaging another poster and we will be watching along with you to see if your prognostication holds water!
I hope it does and keep posting!

Good post and welcome to the board.
I really hope Avery turns out good. Shut some people up around the board. You made clear statements, and I understand everything you said. Lets hope Avery does turn out to be a great receiver.

Re: Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
I don't think people here ever doubted his talent, I think most of us (myself in particular) thought there was a chance we could've had him a little later in the draft, that's all.
I was actually hoping we'd land James Hardy in the second and either Avery or Will Franklin later, but instead we got two pretty good receivers in Avery and Burton. So I'm satisfied with that at this point.

Re: Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
I'm in the "we couldn't have gotten him in round three" boat. He was the top receiver on a few other teams boards, and 9 or 10 receivers were taken in round two.
The only other receiver that I would have considered over Avery was Limas Sweed. But that's after-drafting-Avery logic.
I think Avery, along with a few other picks of ours, are going to surprise a few people this year.

Re: Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
i was high on James Hardy but Avery had more ticks in the positive boxes..plus he is the perfect fit for what we were looking for!
in the draft as a whole im 8/10 positive about it....love the Long,Avery,Greco,Shuening picks.... like the Burton pick...i was down on the King pick, one saving grace being that he`s only 20 so by the time hes at the age of most prospects 22/23 when they come out, then he should be NFL ready if he`s ever gonna be..he could be a steal, but i would have gone Linebacker or Safety with that pick methinks!

I think we're getting off topic, but anyways, I think the King pick was great value for the pick. He was projected as a first rounder next year had he stayed, so you're probably right about him developing into the position. Luckily we have enough depth where he won't be forced into that.
Back to Avery, I recently watch Todd McShay's evaluations of team drafts, and he gave the rams the third position out of four in the nfc west, mostly because of the Avery pick, then proceeded to point out the "fact" that he wasn't as fast as everyone thinks, providing his evidence of Avery's combine times. He completely ignored or was just ignorant of the fact that Avery was running those injured. I scoffed. Scoffed I tell you.

Re: Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
I am excited about the Avery Pick as well as the Greco and Scheuening.
BTW...is it just me or does Greco kinda look like a larger Marc Bulger, with a beard??

Excellent point Nate. Add about 100 pounds in addition to the beard and you have a good case for separated at birth.

Re: Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
Avery has loads of talent and lots of speed, but he isn't polished by any stretch of the imagination. He's more of a Hakim type than Bruce. I watched Bruce in college and the man could run some pretty routes even then. Avery isn't the best route runner in the world but maybe that had more to do with UH coaching than anything. Evidently, at the Senior Bowl he was applauded for his route running so we'll see.

I agree with this but he can become more then Hakim. Avery has the size and the speed to be a number 1 or 2 WR.
As far as his route running, in his rookie year if all he runs is screens and go routes that works for me. Avery taking a screen and getting RAC is productive, Avery ruinning deep routes and taking the FS with him works. Avery catching a quick slant works. My point is in his early days he does not have to be Bruce or Holt when it comes to route running. Get him the ball, punts, KR, end around he will make plays.
Lets talk about his route running in year three, I'm sure he will be much improved.

Re: Lets examine our future star. (Avery)
Avery is going to be a point of contention until he goes out on the field and proves that he was worth taking that high. Case closed.
