    Passing of Bill Walsh

Fox and ESPN are both reporting he passed away this morning at the age of 75.

Yeah, I saw that. He is no doubt one of the greatest coaches of all time. He turned a pretty bad niners team into a dynasty.

Re: Let's pay our Respects to a Great Rival

I have to say I also am feeling the loss. In the 80’s I was surrounded by two co-worker and a good friend that are big time niner fans as I live in Cal, so it really made it tuff, losing to those guys. But you do have too respect what they did. Walsh was a head of his time, his draft where unreal; he seemed to acquire more picks and better players every year. I do recall when the Rams in 99 where on a roll we just beat the niners at home and Walsh came into Dick’s press conference after the games and said we where going all the way, he was right.

Even though he was a member of our hated rivals, Bill Walsh was undeniably one of the greatest coaches the NFL has seen. My heart-felt condolences to his family and friends. This is a sad day for all football fans, no matter what color jersey you wear.

Re: Let's pay our Respects to a Great Rival

I was saddened when I read the news about Coach Walsh today. He was always the consumate professional both on and off the field. What I remember most at this time is how he seemed to always carry himself with class whether his teams won or loss. I also recall how his teams would beat the Rams but would never run up the scores. And during the darkest days of the ***** streak against the Rams there were many games that we were totally outmatched and Walsh didn't ever really rub our noses in it. If there is any consolation its that his systems and ideas will live on in the game of football for a long time to come.

    WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Let's pay our Respects to a Great Rival

One of the truly "good guys", an innovator (who knows what might have happened in 1999 if not for the introduction of the "West Coast Offense"), a coach who could see what a player might accomplish before even the player himself did.

Walsh always had time for the public and will missed by the same.

A gentleman and a true football innovator. Not many have had the kind of impact on the game that Bill Walsh did. RIP
