Roman Gabriel for me. Tony Banks is just a painful memory.

Haden. I remember how short he was and how that kept impacting the team (lots of batted balls), but he's a class guy and I'm glad he's the AD at USC these days.

The first game that really stood out was the '79 season when the Rams beat the Cowboys at Dallas Stadium, Billy Waddy cutting across the field, Hegman just getting his fingertips on the ball but it not being enough to deflect it.

They just played the Rams-Steelers Super Bowl on the NFL Network. Oh soooo close dammit... LOL.

For me it was 1971 Roman Gabriel. Thanks Mikey for making me look back at all the good memories of my childhood.

First memory I have is my dad losing it when Trent Green got hurt in the preseason. Too bad I was too young to remember that dream season. What a season it was. I do remember the Mike Jones tackle though.

It was week 5 of the 1969 NFL regular season.

Both Dallas and Los Angeles were 5-0. This article from the Oct. 25 issue of The Football News anticipates the Cowboys vs Rams clash that was to be played at the L.A. Coliseum on Nov. 29. As it is, Dallas lost at Cleveland Browns in week 7. The Rams kept winning -- they remained undefeated up to week 12, i.e., 11-0. Indeed, the Rams defeated the cowpokes by a minimal margin, 24-23. That year the Rams were vying for Super Bowl III and many sports experts (and fans, myself included!) thought they'd get there. Rams won the Coastal Division but alas, the Vikings got in the way for the NFL Western Conference title in a heartbreaker, 23-20.

We ended with a 11-3-0 record. ...It was the year Gabriel won NFL MVP honors.

    - - - S.I., Dec., 1967. 11-1-2 record.

Cover shows a scrambling RG during one of the most exciting games in Rams history. Week 13, Dec. 9, 1967.

It was a MUST WIN home game vs Packers in order to make the playoffs (actually, the last two games were a must win [NFL had 14 game seasons until '77]; last game was scheduled vs. the mighty Baltimore Colts).

In a thriller, down-to-the-wire finale and trailing 24-20 with less than a minute left in the 4th Qtr., the Rams special teams blocked a Green Bay punt at their 25 yard line and return it to the 5. From there, on a 2nd and goal Gabriel tosses a beautiful floater to flanker Bernie Casey on the left corner of the end zone for the GW score. Rams win 27-20. Pandemonium ensues at the Coliseum, Rams players are jumping on the field and HC George Allen is carried on his players shoulders.

Ferragamo! Same as the OP, Super Bowl XIV. My cousin was a Cowboys fan rooting hard against the Steelers. Been in love with the horns ever since!

No, just a huge Rams fan when RG was at the helm, how the team looked, and how they WON.

I've heard the expression before and I understand it is only relative but ... no, it does not apply though I think I know what you mean. Perhaps a cultural reluctancy in my case.

To go further as a lot have Ferragamo was the first I saw on TV and I became a Rams fan then. The first I saw live was Jim Everett. I've seen many a games in San Fran, just about every one since the mid 80's. Good times and good memories.
