A Letter To Fairchild...

Dear Mr.Fairchild,

As I have watched you dial up plays the past few weeks, a thought has occured in my mind. You have no earthly idea what you're doing. Let's take a look a the running game. First, let me point at the Starter, Steven Jackson. A big, strong back that has some nice speed when he gets into the secondary. Now, let's look at the plays you dial up for him in the first quarter. Toss, Sweeps, Wide Off Tackles. Now this would have worked in 99' or 01' because the Rams had a speedy back with great moves named Marshall Faulk. (At the moment, I'm not quite sure where he plays. I havent seen him all season.)

Now, with a strong back like Steven Jackson; these tosses and sweeps dont work quite so well early in the game. A power back needs to go North and South to start the game. Power backs are special because they dont tire as much as the game wears on. They get stronger as the defense gets weaker. This allows the sweeps and tosses to work later in the game. The LB's are slow to react because they are tired from having a strong runner barrel through the line at them. Now, here is where the fun comes in. Because of the ability that Jackson has, he can now take that run all the way; running by defenders. All because you have worn them down and they are now slow to react.

The days of the GSOT are gone. Sweeps and tosses dont work in the 1st quarter anymore. Introduce Steven Jackson to the opposing LB's early and often. Now, you may think that Jackson cant ake on 3 to 4 LB's alone. I agree. Mr.Fairchild, meet Madison Hedgecock. I believe that he would like to introduce himself to those opposing LBs.I promise that by the end of the game, Steven Jackson will show all the playmaking ability of any back in the league, as long as you run him North and South and stretch the field with sweeps and tosses later in the game.
