Ligashesky retained
Montgomery hired by Lions

DETROIT -- At least one former Rams coach is headed to Detroit. Running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery has been hired by the Lions to coach the same position.
Montgomery spent the past nine seasons in St. Louis, six of them coaching running backs and three coaching tight ends.
With a year left on his contract, Montgomery had hoped to stay in St. Louis. But new Rams head coach Scott Linehan told Montgomery on Monday that he was not part of the team’s plans.
“They’re doing what they have to do, I’m doing what I have to do, and I just move on,” Montgomery said Friday. “St.
Louis was good to me. It’s been a great nine years.”
At the same time, Montgomery is looking forward to returning to Detroit, where he closed out his playing career as an NFL running back in 1985. After working with a young feature back in St. Louis in Steven Jackson, Montgomery will be doing the same in Detroit with Kevin Jones.
“I like him,” Montgomery said. “He’s more explosive than Steven; any one play he can take it the distance.”
Montgomery is scheduled to fly to Detroit on Monday to sign his contract.
Another former Rams assistant, offensive line coach John Benton, is joining the Houston Texans to coach the same position. Benton has been with the Rams the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, Linehan has decided to Rams special teams coach Bob Ligashesky, according to league sources, although it is unclear whether Ligashesky is staying on as the head special teams coach or the assistant special teams coach. Ligashesky joined the Rams last year.

Re: Ligashesky retained
Well, that was kind of a slap in the face to Steven Jackson.
I seem to remember Jackson having a number of big runs, while Jones suffered through an injury riddled season.“I like him,” Montgomery said. “He’s more explosive than Steven; any one play he can take it the distance.”The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.

Montgomery what an idiot if he thinks that. Although he did good with Faulk

I was thinking the same thing also. That comment was a slap to the face to Jackson.

I think the change in running back coaches can only help steven jackson. furthermore, with all due respect, i give montgomery zero credit for faulks success. Faulk needs a coach like i need another hole in my head. He IS a coach and his knowledgeable of the game, study habbits and ability make him a first ballot HOFer. Crediting montgomery is like giving leo mazzone any credit for greg maddux's success.

Re: Ligashesky retained
Maybe Montgomery is gone because Marshall might take the position.

Re: Ligashesky retained
Sorry man, Faulk never needed any coach after SDSU, some may have helped him but all you see of him, is all marshall product, nobody can get credit for him but himself

Re: Ligashesky retained
While Wilbert did make a slight toward Jackson, he isn't off of the mark. Jackson hesitates too many times and tends to run lateral instead of forward. If he would learn to charge ahead, he would have more explosive runs. I cannot think of one time he has busted loose for a TD run over 40 yards. The longest I can remember is a 22 yard run.

How about the run to start off the game against the Saints? Or the run at the end of the game against the Jaguars?I cannot think of one time he has busted loose for a TD run over 40 yards. The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.

Re: Ligashesky retained
Glad Ligashesky is back, good young coach needing some consistency. Montgomery...could take or leave. A jab to Steven Jackson is uncalled for, but he did leave an opening for such a comment in his sophmore year. I would love to see Marshall play his last year here then move into the RB coaches spot.
Do I see a future OC in the making here or what !!!!!!!!!!
