Like the Sands.............
Like the sands through an hourglass, so are the days of our Rams. We made short term goals to win a championship. We succeeded. Now we pay. The window on this team is closing. Prove me wrong and i'll be a happy man.

Re: Like the Sands.............
oh is totally different team from that which won the SB...all new coaching staff..new owner...only two starters remaining and for how long we do not as yet know... and 3 in whole from our 53 man roster (4 if you count Trent!)
is all cool tho...we are evolving faster under Linny than we were under the previous HC...the wall paper that was put up to try and cover flaws in our team has been removed and real work is being done on the crumbling walls that lay underneathe!
if you look at the team Martz & Vitt run in their last year...you could argue that we are in better shape in every department as we are today!
would like to know if anyone thinks a department of our team looked better prior to Linny taking over than it does today?

Re: Like the Sands.............
If anything, It's evidence of the worst-to-first parity of the league. I think we need only to step in line and take a ticket. Sooner or later, we'll rise to prominence again.

Re: Like the Sands.............
I think the GSOT window closed about three years ago.
The question is, will a new window open?

But of those 9, 8 are starters!
Many of our stars - Bulger, Pace, Holt, Little - are getting up there in years and possibly all of them will need to be replaced in the next 2 years.

Caldwell turned 29 in March, and Macklin will be 30 in July ..

Re: Like the Sands.............
Yes, this is a sad time for us Rams fans. Like San Fran, we were a great franchise, but in recent years we're declining. We're starting to build young, you can see it happening.
The GSOT is dead...for now.

Re: Like the Sands.............
I think it all comes down to the trenches. We seem to have the pieces in place for a very good DL although I think we need a speed rusher to replace Little after this season.
On the OL I think we might need another LT at some point but maybe not.
With strong lines in place, everything else should come together without the need for too many new players. I'm thinking we'll make significant strides this season and the following season we're in contention.

Re: Like the Sands.............
Teams are suppose to EVOLVE throughout the course of time...yah some players stay, some go. Verm/Martz built something that was special, but Verm retired and moved on to KC (UGH!) and Madman Martz took over. Got to admit it was frustratingly fun at times to watch the Rams. But after the SB win, a lot of key top talent left, or got old losing a step...the thing that made the GSOT work was you had a madman designing the offense, and a retstraining hand in keeping it real.
Front office was of little help in keeping it going. To run that kinda of system required a lot of infusion of new top caliber talent, and changes in the system so it wasn't PREDICTABLE. So there was a break down in the organization that spelled the doom of the SB team.
Now with Scotty L. things have gotten worst. Folks like to place some blame on previous ownership/leadership for 07 season; However, very questionable decsions in terms of personal both on the team and coaching staff, play calling, over all schemes are all the result of Scotty Linhand's doing. GSoT is dead and gone no thanks to Scotty. THe Rams don't have the muscel, speed, and talent to run it
Personally I think thus far, 08 is going to look a lot like 07

Re: Like the Sands.............
I don't think the current time of hardship is because of short-sighted goals during the GSoT. In some ways, we have tried to build for the long-haul. We just failed spectacularly with some awful drafts. Vermeil left, taking his stabilizing presence with him, leaving the unbalanced Martz in charge. That might have continued to work reasonably well if the defense had held up, but then Lovie left town, leaving us with a bunch of players tailored to his scheme. It just got worse, because then we brought in possibly one of the worst defensive coordinators in team history, Larry Marmie. Now maybe the wound is still too fresh and I'm remembering him worse than he really was, but I do recall when Haslett came to town, he had trouble even figuring what kind of system Marmie was supposed to be running from the tape because everybody was so far out of position, it was hard to tell who was supposed to be where. Finally, the Martz era devolved into such a mess of threats and accusations and failures, the team decided to just reboot.
When we brought in Linehan, we weren't even trying to cling to GSOT glory. We could have brought in a long-time veteran coach to try to get back into the playoffs before it was too late. Instead we took a chance on a young offensive coordinator and pretty much blew up the defense to start from scratch.
I'd say almost the entire defense looks better than it did in the Martz days, for what that's worth.
