Re: Linehan interested in possibly having Ricky Williams back up Jackson

What is the current situation with Stephen Davis? I lost track of him but would sure like to see him back with us!

Two good, reliable RBs (in addition to FB Hedgecock) would do wonders for the general performance of Jax and the running game, for I have the feeling that Steven is ready for a big year this season. Like a big, mad and mean Ram.

Re: Linehan interested in possibly having Ricky Williams back up Jackson

The only trade that should be worked out for Ricky Williams is a conditional 2008 pick dependent on him staying clean through the entire season. Depending on what that pick is, this could work out for the Rams. Ricky has a history, but everything I've read about him recently in terms of coming back to the league sound positive and sound as if he's really done some changing. But we'll see...

I agree that, if a trade were to be made, it would have to be for a conditional pick.

Still, why would Linehan want to take on the burden of Ricky and his "issues"? Wouldn't it be better just to start fresh with a rookie?

If I were of the ilk to consider signing Ricky I'd put provisions in the contract making it financially painful to Ricky if he were to have "legal issues created while under contract to the St Louis Rams organization"

I'm not sure the off-the-field distractions, or possibilities thereof, are worth the roster spot.

Bring him into camp and see what his attitude is. If he seems like he is growing up and has decided to commit to the TEAM and not just to Ricky he may be worth it.

Linehan knows Williams though, and there are no guarentees that the rookie would be cleaner then Ricky!

I think ricky could be an interesting pick up, Love his game but I'm not to sure about his character. Let's not forget he was most likly smoking the reefer to self medicate his MI. Which could become a distraction as we'll. I think a 2nd day conditional could be woth the risk though. This years picks must supply a jenkins and a possible trade up for Amobi, the other resident pot head for 1 day when he was 16..... Ohhh by the way folks Happy 420 :P

In a straight up pick between Moats and Williams I would chose Moats as he would offer even more variation and possibilities to the back field. However, somebody else made a good point that if SJ did go down Moats couldn't carry the load whereas Williams possibly could.

just so you know , i said this first weeks ago , get ricky , his problem is behind him , the yoga guru , is in the best shape of his life , he is close to football shape , and that only comes at training camp . if the dolphins would take a low - mid to low pick for him next year , ( they already have 10 picks this year) than the risk would be worth it . i think davis is pretty much done , he did 40 carries and that was all he needed , if the rams brought in ricky , then moats wouldn't be a great need , we could give minor a shot , but does anyone know what philadelphia wants for moats. i still say ricky could backup , start , or be the 3rd down back , he has great receiver skills , he is just a smaller version of JAX.

We need to jump all over this R.Williams thing. If he's even a good backup for just a year or two, it would justify losing a sixth round draft pick for him. Heck I'd even happily throw in Butler to sweeten the deal at this point.

I say go with Ricky. If he's the best "all-around" running back available, I think he would be a nice addition.

Re: Linehan interested in possibly having Ricky Williams back up Jackson

I would love to acquire Ricky. I wouldn't mind Davis but obviously Williams would outproduce him considerably. Also it would mean that Stephen wouldn't have to have over 400 touches this year. Plus what is the most we would have to give up for him a fourth or fifth and his last suspension wasn't for weed.
