Linehan must send message a little louder to bad apples

    By Bernie Miklasz
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

I simply do not understand Rams coach Scott Linehan.

Linehan's team is 0-6. A lot of fans are calling for him to be fired. His bosses are standing by him, for now, but offer no guarantees that he'll be the head coach in 2008.

Given the circumstances, why would Linehan lose even more credibility and raise additional questions about his toughness and leadership by tolerating the continued buffoonery of hopelessly undisciplined guard Claude Terrell?

If you're a head coach who appears to be fighting to preserve his job, why would you go down surrounded by guys like Terrell, tight end Dominique Byrd and defensive tackle Claude Wroten? They can't be counted on to stay straight, show up at meetings on time or approach their jobs with discipline and dedication. Worse, Terrell is a bad influence on offensive tackle Alex Barron, who would be a great player in this league if he ever matured.

I don't care that Terrell apologized to Linehan for popping off to the coach in Thursday's practice; Terrell has had more than three strikes, and he should be out. I don't care that the Rams are shorthanded on the offensive line; you're already 0-6 with this clown show. Terrell isn't much of a player, and if you cut him, what difference does it make?

At least Linehan finally hollered at his team, unloading after Thursday's practice. Great. Now we'll see how the Rams respond in Seattle.

By tolerating this nonsense, Linehan only weakens his authority, his stature, his dissipating chances to win back the fans. Fans in this town will give just about anyone the benefit of the doubt as long as they are convinced that they're receiving 100 percent effort. But this town will not put up with a player who doesn't show respect for the game or his teammates and coaches. And if Linehan is little more than an enabler who willingly tolerates Terrell's attitude, then the coach is a lost cause. Why is Linehan the last to realize that?

Bernie is an IDIOT! And I'd love to have five minutes to give him a detailed explanation why I think that ...

Why is his stuff even posted here? It would seem more suited for the bunch of dingles that posts over there at RRF ....

Does Bernie hang around the locker room? If he does, he better have his head on a swivel.

I love how Bernie writes things like "Terrell is a bad influence on Barron" as if it is factual.

How could he possibly know that for a fact? Is he there when the two of them hang out? Has he seen Barron say, "hey, Claude... let's do a few more reps in the weight room" only to have Terrell say, "nah... let's get drunk and hit on underage girls."

Bernie, as usual, can't distinguish between fact and opinion.

While I dont always agree with Bernie,I have to agree with him on this one. Just add the terrell incident to the list of reasons the Rams are having the kind of season they are and once again, the coach looks like he is in over his head. It took a player calling him out to even get him to raise his voice in displeasure. The tirade should have come after the san fran game coach. Terrell shoulda been escorted permanantly off the practice field after his antics.
    Just my 2 cents
