I just think its silly to praise someone for giving up authority, then praise them for impacting decisionmaking on the same topic.

Linehan brought Al and Devaney in, he should be given some credit, for the decision that they make. I still think Linehan is better suited for a GM job then a HC. He has put this staff together. He is the weakest link when it comes to coaching. If Martz would have made some better moves in regard to his staff he still would be a HC.

IMO, it's only silly if you think Linehan had absolutely no say in anything after giving Devaney authority, which is pretty unlikely. Giving Devaney authority over running the draft and having the final say doesn't mean Linehan sacrificed his ability to have any input. So in this instance, it seems Bernie is praising Linehan for making Devaney the top of the draft food chain, but is also praising him for the input he still provided as it related to character issues. I see that as entirely possible.

I am confused........who actually hired Devaney? And therefore, who gives Devaney his authority?

Man, I can't wait for the season to start. This dissecting of who hired who, who said what, smokescreen this, authority that makes me want to watch Saved By The Bell just to get some I.Q. points back.

tx, my friend, the concept of watching Saved By The Bell to propagate one's IQ is a notion that rouses the deepest of commiseration and forbearance. Have fun.
Now, back to everyone else and the discussion at hand.....
Who is responsible for Devaney? If Linehan had nothing to do with it, then why would he get credit for Devaney's actions? Or for that matter Linehan's actions that were deemed necessary due to the power given Devaney?

HUb, most everyone here knows that Shaw hired Devaney. This organization doesn't turn any direction without John Shaw's stamp of approval. Some on here may get misdirected at times, that's ok. However, Shaw hired Linehan. Shaw hired Devaney. Shaw technically hired the beer man in section 444.

Excellent point, HUb. I don't think Shaw asked Linehan for permission to hire a strong GM. So, I guess Linehan really should get NO credit for that one.
As for Linehan being the one to insist on high character players... that's mere speculation. Don't forget, Linehan was involved in the drafting of Wroten and Byrd, who are not exactly choir boys.

Then why should Linehan get credit for Devaney's action?
Aside: Doesn't the Socratic method just rock?!

Socrates rocks......
Anyway, he shouldn't get credit for Devaney's actions but if someone wants to give it to him ok.....
My hope and only goal for this year and the only thing I really care about is this: JUST OUTSCORE THE OPPONENT. If the Rams do that, you can give the credit to whoever you want to.
