Long Now #72
There were several recent changes of numbers, and the main one is Chris Long, who switched to #72.

You know what they say, "if it doesn't look right, it doesn't fly right". 72 looks much better than 98 and I expect to see Long flying around the line in 2008.

Re: Long Now #72
So the Rams have a playmaking defensive lineman on the field wearing #72. Maybe this is the much-needed bridge between the Long and Dorsey camps!

Good observation Nick! Somehow I get the feeling that the Dorsey camp is still going to feel shortchanged.

Re: Long Now #72
72 is a huge upgrade in my book. 72 is a much sexier number than 98 in my book. 98 is kinda ugly (if a number can be ugly)

Re: Long Now #72
98 is an overused number. I think 72 is much more original; it seems to fit him and he can make it his own number as a Ram.

Re: Long Now #72
I still think #79 would look hella sexy on Chris. Can't complain about the choice though, I never liked #98 too much.

Well, I am not sure "sexy" is how I'd put it but to each his own!
(Jerry says, "You know George you can say another man is good looking and it doesn't mean you are gay." To which George responds, "Well, it doesn't help!" and then Jerry puts his hands in the air and states, "Not that there's anything wrong with that!")

Re: Long Now #72
Not sure if Long (or whoever might be advising him) is this calculating, but this is actually a smart move. Long will be playing on a line with a bunch of player who all have a # in the 90s:
Little 91
Ryan 95
Carriker 90
Glover 97
Adeyanju 94
Hall 96
Wroten 99
By selecting a # in the 70s, he'll stand out more to announcers and stat guys. Maybe get a little more notice for that occasional tackle or half-sack.
Just a thought.

As if being the #2 overall pick in the draft wouldn't get him enough attention. He could wear any number he likes, he will still be a main topic for every announcer when the Rams play.

As a huge advocate for drafting Dorsey, when the name Chris Long came out my allegience was immediately shifted. This is completely different from the Cromartie/Hill fiasco. Chris Long is going to be a very solid player who should make an impact in his first year....not waiting for a breakout year in year 3 like a CB we drafted.
