Re: Long shows he belongs
I have never seen an episode of South Park but sure see a lot of references to it. Didn't they kill Kenny?
What is it to "go cartman"?

Satire: Wow, I can't believe I missed this one!
Reality: I didn't miss it at all, just waited a while for making the post.
Satire: Leonard, Leonard, my man.......I'm sorry, but you're wrong.
Reality: Leonard, my man......you're not wrong. I'm just some fan who knows nothing from nothing about NFL caliber athleticism. If you say so, who am I to say otherwise.
Satire: We have already established that Long is, in fact, NOT athletic.
Reality: We have already established that Long is, in fact, quite athletic. Some haven't accepted the fact yet, but established none the less.
Satire: We know this because this dude that posts on a website said it, so that pretty much settles it.
Reality: The web is saturated with simple fans, like myself, who fancy themselves experts of sorts. Are we experts? Of course not. The irony being that neither is anyone else including Kiperesque individuals on TV. They're guessing at best. So "dude" is simply a ubiquitous label referring to the whole host of people who don't know anything, but don't know they don't know anything.
Satire: This may bring Little's talent evaluation skills into question.
Reality: There's nothing wrong with Little's talent evaluation skills. However, his assessment does not match up with the aforementioned experts' opinions, so therefore must be discredited or at least questioned by the same experts. Irony at its best.

Well then I stand corrected. Carry on sir.

I don't remember hearing of anyone who said that Long was not athletic. Of course I may have missed it.

You haven't heard anyone question Long's athleticism?

Yes, beers, it's over but it's still fun and a good time waster to debate the pick.
Besides, I don't care who you are, that post of links by Hub is funny.

Yes, among many things that's the show that kills Kenny... well did. They've for the most part gotten over that shtick.
As for "going Cartman", Cartman is the little fat kid who gets pissed off at various things, namely being called fat. "I'm not fat, I'm big boned!"
Moreover, he has done various inhumane and Nazi-like things throughout the show to groups that he doesn't like. One of my personal favorites was Cartman tricking a kid that conned him out of money to eat his parents by way of making them into chili. He's also called for a few genocides, dressed up like Hitler for halloween, tried to get Family Guy canceled, among other things.
As such, when Tx goes Cartman, beware of any gifts of chili.

I pasted the pertinent parts of your links below and none of them really contend that he's not athletic and some even say the opposite.
"He's a first-round-caliber athlete," said Rob Rang, senior analyst for NFLDraftScout.com. "Even if he had zero instincts and zero technique, he'd still be worthy of the first round.
As a pass rusher, he makes plays because of his combination of strength and athleticism.
At 6-5, 275 lbs, the elder Long was a terror that recorded 93 sacks for his career. Chris is a bit bigger and far stronger, but he lacks his Dad’s athleticism.
But considering that there's a perception about him that his weakness is a lack of great athleticism, his decision to do all the workouts at the combine is a good one: His stock won't drop, but it could rise even higher.
DE Chris Long, Virginia – While not the flashiest of the top players, Long is most likely to still be cashing NFL paychecks a dozen years from now. On and off the field, he’s already the consummate professional, a fundamentally sound workaholic that any defense and franchise would love to have under contract.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't have great timed speed or quickness...May not have a lot of upside...Not a great natural pass rusher...Isn't going to strike fear into the hearts of opposing offensive tackles off the edge...Was not overly productive prior to his senior year.

As I recall, it was the opinion of quite a few people that while Long is obviously athletic, he doesn't possess the "freakish" or "elite" athleticism that only a relatively few NFL players possess.

Re: Long shows he belongs
Nice. Any site that can mix Rams and South Park is a great place to be. And as far as those who think Chris Long is unathletic, they are most likely basing that on his forty time. This is the most over rated measurable in all of football. I hope Chris will never run forty yards straight during a game, unless he is taking a fumble to the house. I will go as far and say CL is more athletic than Vernon Gholston- according to NFL.com Long beat him in the 3 cone and the 20 yard shuttle. These drills test ability to turn and change direction on a dime, any track star can run a straight line, an athlete is able to change direction and still be fast. But i don't think i need to convince anyone around here that Chris Long will be a great Ram.

Re: Long shows he belongs
Very nice post C-mob, and good research to back it up. Another interesting thing that we found while discussing this before the draft was that Long was slightly faster than Gholston on the 10 yard split for the forty as well. So yes, going 40 yards(unlikely) Ghsolton'll win, but short distances, Long wins.
Welcome to the clan, man. And as one of the largest Long supporters, I'm sure he'll be a great one too. I can't wait to see him rock some QB's this year.

Thanks Teke. Thought the Rams had a good FA and draft and now I'm definitely ready for the season to start. I think our Rams will surprise some people.

Thanks, Teke.
Kind of like Fried Green Tomatoes where the revenuer disappeared and the investigator likes the bar-b-que, eh?

Yes, you posted the portion of each link that states he is good at what he does. The fact that each of those links make that post only further the mystery of why some think he's not athletic. However, you didn't post the truly pertinent parts as it pertains to questioning Long's athleticism. But, I'll be glad to.
--- Long does not possess the amazing athleticism or speed off the edge to make scouts drool.
--- He may never blow you away with his physical traits
--- he lacks his Dad’s athleticism
--- Long knows his limits athletically
--- He lacks that "elite" athleticism and speed
--- people want to knock his athleticism
--- there's a perception about him that his weakness is a lack of great athleticism
--- Don’t get caught up in the “he’s not athletic hype”.
--- Doesn't have great timed speed or quickness....may not have a lot of upside
These are the parts that I'm talking about. His athleticism has been questioned. And, no, when you're talking about the #2 overall pick, there is no functional difference between questioning athleticism and questioning elite athleticism. Not at that level of expectation. If Leonard Little says the kid is athletic, he's not talking about some general level of athleticism. Leonard Little is an elite athlete, and I'm sure he is more than capable of recognizing it in another.

There's nothing wrong with people questioning his athleticism, he's always going to be questioned as long as he's a HOF's son.
I see it as more of a benefit to him than a hinderance anyway, because everytime he takes the field, he'll have something to prove. And that's a good thing.
