Lovie?
Would things have been better if we'd gone for Lovie Smith instead of Mike Martz after Vermeil??
Hypothetical .. I know but I am a big Lovie Smith fan and would love to see him still in St.Louis

It would have been a real stretch to hire a linebacker coach from another team when you just won the SB and have a great OC.

Lovie was good when he was here.

I'd say an emphatic no. It's true our defense was better than this when Lovie was in charge but not that much better. Looking at the personnel we did pick up with him in charge of the defense from '01-'03, I don't really see indications that our defense was on its way to dominance. He was here when we let London Fletcher go, he was here for that notorious 2001 draft class, and we had major problems stopping the run when he was here, too. And we had a pretty good run under Martz. We went to the playoffs following the 2001, 2003, and 2004 seasons and played in a Super Bowl.
