    Low Attendance For Opener

    Low attendance for opener
    Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Sunday's paid attendance of 52,440 represented the fourth-smallest crowd at the 67,256-seat Edward Jones Dome in the past five seasons. Yet the game met the NFL requirements for a sellout, avoiding a local TV blackout. Here's how:

Premium seats - clubs and suites - don't count in the sellout equation. The Rams have about 9,500 such seats.

The visiting team's allotment of approximately 500 tickets also doesn't have to be sold as part of the sellout requirements.

That means the minimum number of tickets that must be accounted for to reach sellout status is just over 57,000.

Teams are permitted to give away several thousand tickets over the course of the season and count them toward sellouts.

So the Rams had a difference of about 4,500 tickets to make up, which they achieved through a combination of charitable donations and corporate partner Edward Jones.

It's pretty sad when you can't sell out your home opener. I know economic times are tough, and the Rams have stunk for the last three seasons, but this really surprises me.

According to folks who went, it was still a lively joint.

Think about it, though - there were many people that didn't attend the Bash due to economics. Losing + economy = lower attendance.

I've been to 4 or 5 BASHES and this one was by far the smallest group we've had. Still had a great time though!

If the tickets were cheaper wouldnt they make more money by selling more. Doesn't make sense to me.

Depends on how much cheaper the tickets would have to be to get a sell out

I suppose we could start a fund to help fans in the St. Louis who don't have the money to spend on a Rams ticket. We'll set it up so that all the fans who want the St. Louis folks to show up can contribute and then we'll assist those St. Louis folks without the resources go to the game.

This way the miles won't be a hinderance anymore. The St. Louis folks who don't have the money can now go support the Rams; and the non-St.Louis fans who are too far away to come to a game can represent the Rams by proxy.

Send me your bank information and how many tickets you want to buy, and then you can show your support for the team as well.
