I could have sworn he said Isaac Hayes.

It's always obvious that the booth is pulling for anyone playing the Rams, unless it's Monday night or Madden.

Also, can we please get rif of Joe Theisman -- is he the most critical -- negative announcer, or what? With him it doesn't matter what the team is -- no one is good enough!

    gotta go

Joe "Broken leg"Theisman and Paul Maquire are the worst announcers I have ever heard. They suck!! I thought they said Isaac Hayes also:angryram:

I think that the commentary on NFL games has been downgraded greatly in the last few years. The older and fatter Madden gets, the stupider his comments seem to be. He is heralded as one of the best commentators, but in my mind he needs to stick to eating donuts and staying on his Madden Bus to watch the games.

    possible solution

I guess a possible way to solve the announcer problem is to do what I'm sure a great many of us do when the Cards are on......turn the sound off the t.v. and listen to Buck and company.

Never could stand Madden, more concerned with some stupid story he's telling than what's happening on the field. When he calls them, I do what jdpbmo does, mute the tv and turn on radio, but I listen to Jack Snow and Steve Savard. I will be cringing at Dennis Miller's way-over-our-heads jokes, but at least he doesn't call the game.

    Poor TV Commentary

The problem is the announcers, especially "color" guys, have attempted to turn the game into entertainment, instead of providing real analyis.

    Two options:

    1) Mute the sound. I do this often. Remember when NBC did a no-sound game in the early 1980's? Pure bliss.

    2) Log into NFL.com before the game, and cue up the Rams broadcast. Do your part to support Parkway North Grad Steve Savard (St. Louisans, this is not an invite to attack high schools!)

Go Rams! Let's destroy the memories of last year's collapse in Tampa. I still have nightmares of Kevin Carter floundering while Sean King ran for 25 yards on 4th and 19!

I have taken the approach that is almost too funny now. Here's the best team in football, and the only team capable of defeating the Rams (that is, the Rams themselves), and these talking heads can't pronounce simple names...Remember the moron, Steve "I-took-one-too-many-to-the-grill" Young who called him AUNDRE Bruce after winning the Super Bowl?

Lest we forget, Joe Theissman never made a mistake, never threw a bad pass, never fumbled, all his reads were perfect...in fact, he never really broke his leg, that was an ACT because the game offered no challenge to him anymore - he tired of perfection. For some reason, that is the message he took from his playing days as a mediocre quarterback. As for Paul Maguire (or however the hell you spell his name), he suffered from an even greater degree of mediocrity than Josephine Theissman. I found Madden's comment about "a comedian in the broadcast booth, what can a comedian know about footbal?" his most accurate analysis this year.

Speaking of which...I find NOTHING entertaining, enlightening or interesting coming from Dennis Miller's candy hole. I hate him, and cannot figure out WHY a network would even gamble with the idea of a *ahem* comedian (although he's about as funny as multiple sclerosis) in a professional football booth. His jokes are just obscure - not "highbrow" and NOBODY should feel like his jokes are over their head. He's a f***ing jerk who must have naked pictures of an ABC network executive in bed with Marv Albert.

Bottom line is they do ALL suck. Tomorrow night I will be logging on to the Rams broadcast on the web.

Hopefully the Indy Dolts' pathetic performance that allowed the whiners to stay close will give the Rams the incentive to PROTECT THE DAMN BALL!

They do that, they win 31-13. They don't protect the ball...who knows?

    Talking amen brother

Can I get an amen from the congregation? The announcers suck, that's it, just suck. I hate them because they are supposed to not show favoritism. They are supposed to simply describe the game. There are only a very few of them that do it well.
