The remaking of Scott Linehan's staff in St. Louis has continued, with the
Rams dismissing two more assistant coaches.
Linehan has fired secondary coach Willy Robinson and running backs aide Wayne Moses, both of whom were part of his original staff with the club in 2006.
Earlier in the offseason, St. Louis fired offensive line coach Paul Boudreau and apprised offensive coordinator Greg Olson that he will not continue in that capacity. Olson could remain with the team, but as a position coach not a coordinator, and he has been told he can seek a job with another franchise if he wishes.
The Rams hired veteran offensive line coach Steve Loney, who served as the interim head coach at Drake University in 2007, this week to replace Boudreau. Last week, the Rams hired former Tampa Bay running backs coach Art Valero, who has experience at several positions and will serve as assistant head coach.
Linehan has interviewed Cincinnati quarterback coach Ken Zamepese and Atlanta offensive coordinator Hue Jackson for Olson's job. He has also spoken by phone to recently deposed NFL head coaches Brian Billick of Baltimore and Cam Cameron of Miami, but has not formally interviewed either for the offensive coordinator position.
With the Rams stumbling to a 3-13 record in 2007, Linehan probably enters next season under intense scrutiny, and there was some pressure to shake up his coaching staff.
Robinson, 51, is 13-year NFL veteran who had been a defensive coordinator in the past and previously worked at Seattle (1995-99), Pittsburgh (200-2003), San Francisco (2004) and New Orleans (2005). Moses' job with the Rams was his first in the NFL after a long college career.
Linehan will likely interview candidates for the new openings at next week's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
