    Is Marc Bulger tradeable?

It should come as no surprise that the Rams have not altered Marc Bulger's status to date. Until they see Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy throw at their Pro Days, it is unlikely that anything will change.

But, should the Rams reach the point at which they decide that the will draft their "QB of the future"... and assuming that the team is comfortable with A.J. Feeley as the bridge/mentor/backup for that QB... is Marc Bulger tradeable?

The biggest reason why he might not be is his contract. He is due to be paid $8.5 Million in 2010, and there is no reason to believe he'd agree to take less. That stated, 2010 is going to be uncapped, so perhaps his salary is less of a concern than it otherwise would be.

If Marc hits the market, who is his competition. Derek Anderson and Jake Delhomme are, at this point, the most notable FAs on the market. Are either of them clearly better than Bulger?

As far as the trade market goes, there is minimal competition. Certainly, Michael Vick will be on the market. Perhaps Donovan McNabb will be as well.

If Bulger is available, who might be interested in his services. Given his salary, it would likely be a team that would acquire him to at least compete for the starting job.

Is Arizona settled on Matt Leinart? Are the Vikings confident that Brett Favre will return? Are the Steelers worried about ben Roethlisberger's potential legal issues? Are the Browns, Broncos, Raiders and Bills open to acquiring an experienced veteran?

It would be a shame to lose Bulger and get nothing in return. Will the Rams be able to get something of value?

The Browns would snatch him up. Holmgren knows how good Bulger can be. He tries to bring him in hoping that he can get some gas out of the tank.

With a good line, he can throw like the best. I would say he is tradable, but it might be expensive.

Because of the contract I'm guessing there wouldn't be enough demand for a trade to happen, instead I'm guessing anyone that had any interest would wait for a release and go after him.

The rumor of Bulger to the Cards seemed unfounded, but I'll admit it makes the most sense to me, and if released it should make the most sense to Marc.

unless he's willing to help us out by agreeing to change his contract upon trade there's pretty much no way, i could see him doing it because he would probably make more money than if he gets cut and has to sign a fresh deal but chances are probably slim.

I say no teams know it’s a forgone conclusion that the rams will likely cut Bulger at some point so why give anything for him.

    Re: Is Marc Bulger tradeable?

I'd guess in THIS offseason it actually would be possible to trade him. The Rams could eat part of his salary where that wouldn't be an option if we were forced to meet the strict demands of a salary cap.

But as with the previously stated argument whenever another team wants to trade a player, why would the Rams be willing to take a 7th round pick for such an obviously great player that could take any decent team to the playoffs?

I think the Bears with Martz will sign him if he is cut to mentor Cutler in the high IQ system.

Bulger is not good enough to ever start in the NFL, but he can back up someone for a year or so then retire.

Bulger can start , but who really needs him would be the catch. The only team i see stupid enough to take hime and give us something is the Raiders. Everyone else would wait till he is cut. So let's hope Demarcus Russell pulls an eye lash and they jump on Bulger.

    Re: Is Marc Bulger tradeable?

Well the thing you have to consider is the lack of free agent talent at the QB position this year. You have Jake Delhomme, who is three years older than Bulger and threw a massive 18 interceptions in 11 games last year. You also have Derek Anderson, who had a passer rating of 42.1 for the 8 games he played, throwing 10 ints. Bulger would clearly be the best free agent QB available if he was on the market.

Now, if you were a team looking to bring in some competition for the starting QB job, something a team like Buffalo, Cleveland, Oakland or Arizona may want to do, then do you sign a guy like Anderson or Delhomme, or would you prefer to give up a draft pick and get Bulger? Id prefer to give up a late round pick, something like a 5th or 6th rounder, to get Bulger rather than sign Delhomme or Anderson in the hope they provide some decent competition

Yes Bulger has a large salary this year, but its an uncapped year. Also, i doubt the Rams would be demanding too high of a draft pick for Bulger. The only issue is that if Bulger is the best QB available, why would the Rams get rid of him?

Teams could be waiting for Bulger to be cut, but then they would have to bid against each other for his services, and he may not even end up getting cut if the Rams decide to use Bulger to mentor a young QB. If a team really wants to bring in competition for their starting QB job, trading for Marc Bulger is one of the best options available. Depending on the Rams asking price.

Hmm, right now I'll have to put all the above posts in the blender and pour the NFL mix: a strangely savory 'YES'.

    Re: Is Marc Bulger tradeable?

As the starting QB of a team that has gone 6 and 42 over the last 3 years, and has a humongous contract, I don't think many teams will be nearly as sympathetic to his demise as some here have been. If anyone bites, the Rams are in no position to dictate what they receive in return, barring something catastrophic to a starting QB around the league in which some team may become desperate.

Like moonjoe said, if he has the line he can throw. Keyword is team, it takes a team to be good, it all doesn't fall on the QB like most people want to believe. Everyone needs a scapegoat or a fall guy and unfortunately that is the QB.. Throw in good WRS and a good line and you have the good ole Bulger. Take those things away "performance" hinders.

On the brown's forum they said there is a rumor on Sirus Radio of Bulger for Quinn. Anyone else here that rumor?

If true and we did the trade it might make it likely we take a DT #1.
