Born Marshall William Faulk in New Orleans . Marshall grew up in the desire Housing Projects in New Oleans ninth ward with his Mother Cecile , his father Roosevelt , and his five brothers . Marshall attended George Washington Carver High Scholl where he played numerous positions such as RB, QB , WR , and CB . He also lettered in track and field . Marshall was highly recruited out of high school mainly for his defensive abilities . Marshall went to San Diego state U. Due to the fact that they were the only school that would give him the opportunity to play the RB position . Marshall majored in Administration while at the University . He became the 1st freshman in NCAA in history to lead the nation in both rushing and scoring.
Amoung his numerous college accomplishment were that he was named UPI Freshman of the year , Named to 1st team AP all American ( third freshman in history ever to do so ) , And as a sophomore became the 5th player in NCAA history to record back to back rushing titles . As a junior , Marshall was ranked 5th in NCAA rushing and finished 4th in the 1993 Heisman Trophy balloting . Marshall decided to forgo his senior year as an Aztec to pursue a career in thr NFL ..
