Marty Gilyard
I know he muffed that kickoff but if you noticed in the 4th quarter he played a lot.
Do you think he passed Gibson or did Gibson get hurt?
I think Gilyard can really give this team a boost and should start next week against the Sea-Girls.
Without Avery we really need something new to get some explosiveness on the field....

Re: Marty Gilyard
I don't think he passed anyone. I think we just played more 4 wide using him as the 4th receiver. Gibson got open, but he dropped too many balls for my liking he could have easily gotten 80 plus yards. Clayton on the other hand was targetted 6 times and caught 5 for 85 yards hands are looking way better than they were week 1

Re: Marty Gilyard
I just think the coachs were trying to get him on the field more and give him more playing time. He's still a raw route runner but he's got playmaking ability that the rams painfully lack.
Oh yeah, its Mardy not Marty.

He had one catch. How did he pass anyone?

Re: Marty Gilyard
The sooner Gilyard learns the plays the better. We need a burner on the field.

Re: Marty Gilyard
I think we need to make a full commitment to ONE RETURN MAN on kickoffs.
We are losing a blocker by having 2 guys back there....Danny shouldn't be used as we need him in the slot..
NO?

Re: Marty Gilyard
Yeah but we should be using MG in reverses, WR screens, and even on long fly patterns to extend the field.
That would turn SJAX's 4 yd runs into 12 yard runs......
Anything less than 2-2 if a failure this week....with or without SJAX

Re: Marty Gilyard
He was probably rotating with Brandon Gibson in Laurent Robinson's spot. I wouldn't take it as an indication that he's passed anyone on the depth chart, as I'd still consider him this team's fourth receiver behind Clayton, Robinson, and Amendola, assuming they're all healthy.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens to Gilyard on this team. I think his best fit is in the slot, where Amendola plays. I don't think he's as well suited lining up outside. But as long as Danny's here, Gilyard may be playing second fiddle in the slot.

Re: Marty Gilyard
I'd like to see the Rams get the ball in his hands a bit more. Perhaps run a reverse or a screen or two to him.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Marty Gilyard
Very true, I like what he brings when he's in space with the football. He shows pretty good vision on kick returns, weaving through space to try and gain as much as he can. I do believe the Rams tried a screen pass to him, but he was blown up by a defender. I hope they don't take it out of the playbook because of that.

Re: Marty Gilyard
If a team won their division seven straight times, that would be a NFL record. Now add on that team did it with seven different QB's in seven straight years, that record is unbeatable. To do that feat, you must of had a great Defense. Jack Youngblood was the captain of that defense.

Re: Marty Gilyard
I'd second that. A single 7-yard reception doesn't mean much of anything. At this point, Amendola and Clayton are our most effective receivers with Robinson theoretically in close contention if he is ever fully healthy. The difference in playing time between the fourth and fifth receiver in this offense is probably minimal.
