    Martz makes inquiry to league...

    Martz Inquires Regarding Pregame Challenges
    [AP] St. Louis
    September 15, 2005

Following his unprecedented use of a replay challenge one second into the Rams' opening day contest with San Francisco, Mike Martz has asked the league to clarify the rules regarding use of challenges. Specifically, Martz has asked whether he would be permitted to use challenges prior to the opening kickoff.

"It certainly might come up" remarked Martz. "I can envision a scenario in which a challenge might be utilized on the coin flip or, perhaps, to correct an error made during player introductions."

League officials have not responded, though most analysts believe that pregame challenges are possible, under current NFL rules.

Please tell me you just made that up. LOL

But then again, I could see Martz saying something like this on a Thursday to keep the media off his players for the next three days.
"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

"Upon further review, the introduction of the Rams' starting linebacker is overturned. The name is pronounced Ti-no-isa-moa. The Rams will not be charged a timeout."

    LOL

Well the refs can eject a player before the game starts.

We saw that happen Monday night.

And the refs are always correct......Right?

Since I am not suppost to joke around about Martz on this thread, even though the whole thread is a jab at Martz I will just say this......

I think you have the best coach in the NFL besides Belichick. I wish the Vikings were able to get Martz and turn my team around. You should not make fun of your great coach. He deserves to be praised and glorified for all that he has done. I Love Love Love Coach Martz and you guys should to.

Hope this makes you happy whoever deleted my previous post.

This isn't that far-fetched. Think about what happened before the Atlanta/Philly game on Monday.

Say before the game, there was a scuffle, and 2 players were ejected for throwing punches (because that is a mandatory ejection). In the Monday night game, the ref went to the replay himself and reviewed to make sure both players threw punches, but what if he didn't? What if as a coach you wanted to be sure one of your vital players threw a punch before letting him get thrown out? If I was Andy Reid, and he hadn't reviewed the play on his own, I would have thrown the flag.

and by the way, excellent reply bobcat.

edit: well i just read the rest of the thread, and someone already said this, basically. whoops.
