Smile Martz - Saturday

Saturday, August 20, 2005

Jamie Martin has a groin issue right now that he can play with it. We have got to make sure it’s recovered fully before we play him again, which gives us an opportunity to play the other two quarterbacks.

The offensive line is mending, and to have Orlando Pace back now is big for us. Adam Timmerman won't play this week.
We have a chance now to get our whole offensive line, both the first and second units, together as a veteran group. This is probably the most significant second unit on the offensive line we’ve had since I’ve been here, which will really help us.

The young players in the secondary tend to miss some of the things in recognition in run support. We would expect a significant improvement there. By and large I think those are the two areas you will see the most improvement in.
In the nickel package, we will look at a bunch of alternatives.
The nickel sets different routes and that’s where you have got to have your cover guy. The nickel back is a significant position to play. Ron Bartell is probably better suited outside right now so you aren’t trying to teach him two positions as a rookie. That’s the whole thought behind that. To have Bartell play outside then also try to teach him the nickel when he needs to get grooved to the techniques of being outside, you just leave him there. DeJuan is terrific in the slot, terrific in the nickel, he always has been. That’s probably where we’ll end up right now.

Interesting, maybe things are coming together on the line.
