Maybe kukar not so bad after-all

Tom White and his crew out did themselves today...

First half usual NFL nonsense with blown call on a push off by a Houston receiver which led to a long gain and then a ticky tack absurd holding on an eligible receiver 5.01 yards from the line of scrimage which leads to the Houston TD in the game.

Now the 2nd half starts and Houston is pinned deep on fourth down. White is standing next to the punter for some reason the ball is snapped and hits him in the jewel box. White says ball was not marked ready for play since the referee was not in position. Houston kicks again but is called for holding so they have to kick a third time...Santana Moss turns the corner and takes the ball down the side line to the 4 yard line as a flag goes flying...illegal block in the back coming, ball will be brought back...Jets start screaming...refs huddle...replay shown maybe maybe not very close...they decide to pick up the flag! Jets get the ball at the 4 and score to take the lead.

Now Houston is driving back and are at the Jet 35 on a second down play..the Houston qb and the receiver cross signals and the Houston qb throws the ball out of bounds with no receiver near him. Third down coming right. Well after a 10 second delay, White decides to call intentional grounding, a call far worse than the moronic call they made against Tennessee at the end of the playoff game...the qb was not under any pressure. So White makes the call and announces it is fourth down...obviously he had turned his down indicator after the incompletion and when it was loss of down he thought it was fourth down.

They get together, have to call the press box and finally decide it is third down. So on the next play, Houston gets called for a grabbing the face mask of a defensive lineman (it could have been called holding)...they march off a 10 yard penalty and Houston is lined up to snap the ball when it suddenly dawne on them they had only marched off 10 yards...so another conference and they decide to march off another 5 yards....

What a disgrace. Luckily for them the Jets broke the game open later so it would seem the calls really had no effectj on the game but who really knows!
