Maybe time to find a new right tackle, permanently ...
Jason Smith left practice today and was a "bit fuzzy" and having his head brushed by Chris Long ...
Reporters at the practice are saying Smith did not look good ...
Looks like another concussion possibly. If so, it's time to find a replacement. Cannot have a RT made of glass ....
Assume Goldberg will move to RT and Greco to RG if the Glassman can't go ...

Re: Maybe time to find a new right tackle, permanently ...
All that money on a 2nd overall pick OT, down the drain? Give him some time, it's too early to decide, though I'd look for a free agent RT that can at least make the right side of the line not glassy.

Re: Maybe time to find a new right tackle, permanently ...
Smith has been very inconsistent this year. At first, I put it down to his inexperience but it's quite likely that his physical problems have affected his performance. It may be prudent to allow him as much time as he needs to recover- even if that means placing him on IR- and hoping that he returns at full fitness; if he can't shake his problems, he may need to call it a day for his own sake.

Is anybody else picturing Chris Long gently stroking Smith's hair saying "it's going to be alright Jason..."
On a serious note, though, all these concussion problems this early in his career do not bode well. Seems like a super nice guy, but not sure he's going to cut it in the NFL.

Come on infiniti, its the guys second year. Stuff happens.
Goldberg will slide to tackle and greco will start.
Could be worse.

Since we do have a substantial investment in this guy I guess we don't have much choice but to stick with him, but in my book he's been a bit of dissapointment in the toughness category for sure.

Re: Maybe time to find a new right tackle, permanently ...
We definitely haven't seen enough of him to call him a bust. However, it is truly disappointing to see him play at right tackle after being drafted so high. The combine seems to boost the stock of many players that have underperformed for the Rams. I wonder if the front office regrets drafting him over Eugene Monroe.

Re: Maybe time to find a new right tackle, permanently ...
Another injury would be a disappointment, for sure, but the numbers seem to indicate that Smith has helped to improve the right side of the OL significantly as a runblocker( go look at the OL power rankings on nfldotcom). So far, The Rams have far fewer negative plays & a solid jump in power on that side. Just anecdotally, I can recall more big runs off the right side than the left.
JS is still struggling in pass pro a bit,of course, but he has to be given some credit for the effectiveness of those right side rollouts. Take out a couple of those sacks for the times Sam has run out of bounds behind the LOS & the pass pro looks even better statistically.
I'd hoped they would be even better by now myself but they ARE getting better & I think Smith has been a part of that.Even if Smith has to sit for a game as a precautionary measure, the idea of Greco getting some more time with the first string @ RG could be a longterm silver lining. It's Goldberg who needs to go back to being a versatile back-up on the bench, not Smith, imo.
And I certainly have no problem with the NFL generally being much more cautious about head injuries than in the past which is all this may be.

Re: Maybe time to find a new right tackle, permanently ...
While I don't think it's time to cut ties just yet, I definitely think that some fans and some of the coaching staff might be losing a little bit of patience with Smith.
They took a gamble on his upside, and he's been beginning to show some promise. Nobody can predict a pattern of concussions, but at the end of the season, I think we might have some fans questioning if we made the right choice. Whether or not he can develop into a Jordan Gross type player still remains to be seen, and I think that's going to trouble a LOT of fans if he's missing extended time this season.
On the other hand, I'm thrilled with Roger Saffold's progression.

Time to replace the guy? That's awesome analysis.

I like people calling him a bust, all the people who called Chris Long a bust were wrong, and Chris showed them!!! Keep calling Jason Smith a bust, then he will show you guys up too.
