Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
It seems like it's the time to be getting carried away with our rookies, so lets talk about this guy! He had a great showing against the Patriots
He had two good TD grabs, but the highlight as to be that one hander he made, which was just a sick catch. You would be hard pressed to find many TEs that can make that kind of grab. It looks like Bradford trusts him already.
Best thing for me? I remember spending a 2nd rounder on Joe Klopfenstein and a 3rd on Dominique Byrd, and neither panned out. To see a fifth round TE playing so well is great
It brings up an interesting scenario though. With Uh-Oh playing well, Bajema entrenched as the blocking specialist, and Onobun as a project who is seeing the field as a receiver, could Daniel Fells be on the way out?
Oh and just so you know:

I hope so. I won't get my hopes up yet, but he played GREAT. lets hope he keeps it up. He was the player we were told to watch out of camp

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
Looked good, need to reproduce those results (As does Bradford). TE is a position that seems wide open. Fells had a chance to go to the Pats and declined because he thought he could start here, and hasn't done anything to separate himself as a starter, so tonight's game was probably a good chance for uh-oh to show he should be starting.
I would love, btw, to come out of this last draft with several late-round gems. IMO finding gold deep in the draft is what makes great teams. You can't have a 22 man starting front of top 10 picks.

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
He was very impressive tonight. There is no doubt that he's going to see a lot of the field this year and I would not be surprised to see him eventually start.

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
Oh definitely.
I think it's plausible that we could end up with quite a few starters from this draft. Bradford and Saffold already appear to be starters, and Murphy and Uh-Oh look like they could join them too. One of the DEs such as Hall Davis or George Selvie, given a year or two, could end up starting opposite Chris Long. Marquis Johnson at least looks like very good depth at the CB position, if not higher up the depth chart. Gilyard is in the mix at WR. Onobun is developing well at TE, and could probably make the team instead of the practice squad. Josh Hull just seems to be making tackles everywhere at LB.
It's one of the most promising Rams drafts i have seen for years

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
I think I'll call him Big Mike.
And yes, I think with last night's performance, he has really made a case for himself to be the number one.

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
Wasn't this guy the same player who was supposed to have hands made of brick, or something stupid like that?
Great job from him tonight. I know if he does start, I'm going to get sick of hearing every sports announcer make the same lame joke "Say that name twice! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA".
It's already getting old. That would just mean he's doing a good job though, if he's making the highlight reels!Last edited by shower beers; -08-27-2010 at 10:51 AM.

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
I think I've got the pronunciation down, just have to work on the spelling. He certainly made a strong case that he deserves to be on the field, whether or not he's won the starting job, I don't know. Fells and Bajema have had some good preseason moments as well, so they're probably all in the mix. But it wouldn't surprise me if, by year's end, Uh-Oh is the guy.

Re: Michael Hoomanawanui - our starting TE?
I'm watching the replay of last nights game right now, When Hoomanawanui scored his second TD, the Packed Gillette Crowd was in stone, Stunned silence. I mean, the sellout crowd seemed shocked! Impressed with Hoomanawanui's athleticism, he has a nose for the endzone. Michael has had a nice preseason, I can see him starting openning day.
