Mike Jones new Rams coach--The Bernie
BernieM wrote:
Not official.
Not sure what his role will be.
Making men out of the LBs is a start.
Teaching the defense to tackle is another start.
Get him involved in the special teams.
Cheers,
Bernie

Re: Mike Jones new Rams coach--The Bernie
I've been preaching this for awhile now. Glad to see it's close to happening. Who better to teach these guys how to tackle than the man who is best known for, 'The Tackle.' Great move by the organization IMO. He'll be defensive coordinator in a few years.

Now we need aeneas as secondary coach, and someday Marshal Faulk as running backs coach :ramlogo:

Sounds good to me. Although while I see Aeneas as a coach, I don't think we'll see Marshall as a coach. He seems like the kinda guy who will step away from the game, and not be easy to find afterwards. Kinda like McGwire did with the Cardinals.

This is very intriguing news. Hopefully he has a huge impact on the performance of our linebackers.

He will certainly have an impact if he is still in good enough shape to get on the field and play special teams. At least he can tackle a guy standing in front of him, let alone an actual moving target, a skill sorely lacking on both the defense and the special teams all of last year.

Um, he's going to be a coach, GC. So he won't have to play special teams.

I appreciate that he is going to be a coach nick, i was only making the sarcastic point that given the deplorable nature of our tackling last year, he may well be an upgrade from what is on the active roster. Same point i was making all year in suggesting that we sign Big Jackie rather than send grant williams out there week after week to get killed.

Uh, GC. I actually thought the Jackie Slater idea was a good one.i was only making the sarcastic point that given the deplorable nature of our tackling last year, he may well be an upgrade from what is on the active roster. Does the Mike Jones hire mean that current LB coach Joe Vitt is out the door? If anybody knows, fill me in please.

Re: Mike Jones new Rams coach--The Bernie
Apparently Mike Jones will not be a new Rams coach according to Martz.
From KSDK:
Martz also announced that former Rams linebacker Mike Jones won't be joining the Rams coaching staff after all.
Coach Martz tells us they have already filled the position.
However, Jones is being considered for the job at the University of Illinois to coach linebackers and be the recruiter for the Illini in the St. Louis area.
