Monday morning hangover...long
Going from the high of a new to season to the absolute let down by my Rams has left me feeling woozy. I had hope and dreams of an improved football team that would play hard for four quarters. I saw some flashes as I did last year. Then again we only decided to play 2 quarters again.
The walking penalty box that is Incognito has got to go. He isnt all that great in the first place and constantly costs us 15 yds when he feels the need to punch guys in the chest or hit guys late. He's a mess and embarassing if you ask me. He was cheap shotting guys the whole game but was only caught twice. It's hard not to like him for his fire,i do like him. Unfortunately he isnt talented enough and neither is this team to keep putting up with his stupid mistakes.
We shelled out tons of cash for Bartell, yet Wade looked like the best corner on the field yesterday. Bartell was getting beaten on everything thrown his way. I thought for sure hed get a pi call against him on a fade route but he managed to flail his arms up just at the right time to hit the ball. If Bulger takes all the flak for being paid huge jack and not performing than Bartell should be getting killed today.
Atogwe is just flat out awesome. He is a bigtime playmaker and needs to be locked down with a huge contract. Nice job by the front office to wait so long to pay the guy that he may be a top 2 safety by the time they decide to pay him instead of a relatively good but unknown player around the NFL. Butler was a great aquisition and has raised the level of play of Atogwe. Now OJ isnt by himself back there anymore.
Finally we have a middle linebacker. Laurinitis is going to be really good. Heck he was really good yesterday. He made some mistakes but hes a rookie and was always around the ball. He absolutely did not look like a rookie. Witherspoon on the other hand seems to vanish into thin air during games anymore. I remember when we used to hear his name mentioned four or five times for big plays in games. Now I only hear his name for missing tackles and gettig hurt. Vabora had a decent game, seeing how he was a 7th round pick and is playing some half way decent football is a tribute to him as a hard worker. It is fair to say however that we may need two olb's after this year.
Our d-line is dreadful. The Seachickens had two starters out on the o-line and i'm not sure we knocked Hasselcrack over once. When we blitz it get picked up easily. Not too mention that he would take a three step drop and have 3 wide open wr's to throw to. We got no pressure and were getting gashed for four or five yds almost everytime a guy would run the ball. They did do a nice job on the goal line untill play action and of course wide open in the back of the endzone was Jay Novacek err i mean Carlson. Chris Long hustles but most of his plays are made five yds down field, I want to see him making some behind the line of scrimmage. Hey if anyone see's Leanard Little let him know Hasselcrack has a burger he grilled for him during the game yesterday with all that time he had in the backfield after the snap. The personal foul on Little was bs though. Burleson was still farting around in bounds when Little went to hit him. Unfortunately Little barley touched him, I wish he had completely wiped the guy out for that 15 yards he deserved to get hit HARD.
No need to cover Bulger we all know its all his fault and Boller should be starting LOL.
Jackson just didnt get enough touches. What happened to the power running game? All I heard about was him running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfiled. Did he even have a catch yesterday? I was thinking he would be there for Bulger to dump the ball too in those scrambling situations (and there were a lot of them) but S-jax was no where to be found. Curry is a punk, on several occasions cheap shotting Jackson but of course Jackson got caught for retaliating and called for a personal foul. We definately need big games out of Jackson but he needs holes to run through and his wr's not to hold.
Our much improved o-line looked like a team that had street free agents starting up front. We still cannot pick up or slow down a blitz to save Bulgers life. Guys running free from all directions, it's embarassing. Smith played average at best, but he will be a good player. Our middle 3 guys Bell,Penalty box Cog's, and Brown all played terribly. Brown misfired a shotgun snap that almost turned into a disaster and got Bulger drilled again. Brown and penalty box Cog's combined to ignore two guys blitzing up the middle and getting Bulger smacked in the mouth. Guess who our best o-lineman is? Yes the much maligned Alex Barron. He played a great game and held Kerney in check all game long. So I guess we shouldnt plan on releasing him after this season. We need to show improvement or we may not win a game.
I'd say special teams was great but I'd be lying. Donnie Jones and the punt coverage was great. I mean as close to perfect as you can get. Jones is absolutley fantastic back there. Our high priced kicker shanked a chip shot in front of his old fans while they booed him and he gave them what they wanted. 12 men on the field for a blocked field goal was just stupid. How does that happen and who was the extra guy? I mean you have set guys for special teams and you make a call and 11 guys get out there and play. Also why wasnt our lb or safety on that play counting the players in front of him??? Again come see the circus play, and of course the five yard penalty gave the chickens a first down and they marched in for a score.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it. I know it's early and this is Spags first game and we are not very talented. We were not well prepared for this game and that falls on Spags and the coaching staff. Sloppy and too many penalties killed us yesterday. I did not expect to win but I did expect to see a professional football team out there playing hard for four qtrs. I expect a much better performance vs the Redskins. I know we probably wont win but 28-0 is unacceptable. It was a collective effort blaming Bulger is just plain stupid. He didnt play well but i only saw a couple of guys who did (Atogwe,Wade,Laurinits,Barron) play well.

There were some good things that happen yesterday. I have to agree on out talent level. Spag want a passionate football team thatís fine but being passionate and not being able to play football is not going to improve our team. I will stand fast and hope we can find some players and the drafts and FA, this will take some time.:ramlogo:

Well i can at least say i feel much better going into the second game of the season this year than i did last year..
And i agree with the "late" Little hit..First time i saw it i thought he just nailed the guy for no reason, but the replay showed he was still in bounds up until the last second, when Little barely layed a hand on him..
