Which was the biggest surprise?
Top three surprises for me, in that order: 1) Avery; 2) Diles; 3) Foster.
:helmet:
While none of the cuts upset me I was surprised by Avery. Muir would be next in line.
I don't look at Lewis as a cut because I think he makes it to the practice squad. (fingers crossed)
In order:
1) Lewis
2) Foster
3) Muir
4) Avery
I would have expected Lewis and Foster to be retained because both are young and back up key positions. Muir is a surprise because he was brought in just weeks ago and was rumored to be starting quality at a position of weakness on the team. Avery is only a mild surprise because Rams fans have generally known that it was likely some popular receiver would not make the roster. I didn't expect him to be cut, but I wasn't exactly shocked either.

Avery– not surprised but disappointed. I really wanted him to become one of the elites. I guess MCD saw something that irritated him. Oh well another high pick bust.
Actually, I have to go off the reservation & vote for Gilyard. Probably get in trouble but there's usually an "Other(specify)" option. Waddup wid dat, AV?
Don't get me wrong, I won't mourn Gilyard particularly; those tootsie roll arms just screamed turnover to me & the attached stone hands didn't help, but I did like the fight he showed & the burst was there.I thought the specialist value, the dramatic jump in performance, relatively speaking, and attitude would impress Spags but I guess circumstances, esp the new kick-off rule, & reliability/potential/better physique criteria won out.
As I said, I'm not upset by the choice but, whatever his shortfall, I thought Mardy passed his character test impressively & it's a shame that The Rams won't get the benefit of the athletic talent that was apparent in college now that he's shown the moxie & commitment. Not sayin' he'll ever be great or even better than those that stuck but I'm surprised Spags was that cutthroat & pragmatic.
Maybe even impressed.
Honorable mention goes to Foster but the feeling is less surprise than dread.I think Fraley is a liability anywhere but at least we know Sam & the offense could function with Goldberg at guard for an extended time. Not ideal but do-able. At tackle......yikes.....
wow still cant believe Donnie has gone bye bye! :( My most surprising one...
Avery was too expensive to be behind those who he would be. The fact that both Ojinnaka and Foster were cut amazes me. We have no 3rd tackle right now.
Im not surprised with any of the cuts really. I was hoping their would be more of a standout player on the O-Line so Fraley was cut instead. Im a little worried to be honest, about any injuries to the starting O-Line.?
I was most surprised by Avery being cut but also the fact that Dorrell Scott beat out Muir for the 4th DT spot - could this have been due to Muir's higher salary?
Selvie - I thought Spags liked him (although never gave him much playing time). Also with the Rotation Spags uses I thought another DE was necessary.
Avery... Now I don't have a deep threat in madden anymore.. :(
Its gotta be Avery. He was really coming into his own this pre season. I thought there was no way he wouldn't make this team after what he showed in the pre season. Its going to be weird seeing Avery elsewhere.
let's face it, no one called Avery being cut. I can't help but wonder if the cut was somehow a little personal? Avery's tweet made out like he wanted to go and we all know that spags will open the door for you on your way out.
