My Last Sam Bradford Thread of 2014

The 2014 season is over for Sam Bradford.

Sam's career, on the other hand, is not.

Sam is still two months shy of his 27th birthday. For a QB, that's very young. And, while his career has certainly derailed due to injury, it is not necessarily over.

So... where will Sam Bradford be one year from today?

Re: My Last Sam Bradford Thread of 2014

I voted for another teams backup. I'll go one step further and say it's in New Orleans. Brees isn't getting younger, Payton can do wonders with him and they don't have a young development guy behind Brees. One things for certain I will root for Sam as long as he doesn't go to a division rival or the Patriots.

I think that money will dictate that the Rams move on from Sam. He will likely sign a 1-2 year "prove it" deal with another team and come in as the back-up.

That could work out well for Sam. If he can put his injuries behind him and learn another system, he could be a full-time starter again before he is 30.

I agree, think that is what should happen.

I have to wonder whether they will keep him for the last year of his contract. The answer to his successor isn't on the roster. And Fisher is a pretty loyal guy.

I think a lot of it will depend on what Hill does this year. He plays well, Sam is gone. If he's shaky, they might try one more time.

The other possibility is the Rams cut him - and no one is willing to invest in him. This isn't Alex Smith - do you want the guy as a backup if you can't count on him to stay healthy if he has to step in?

    Anyway, should be interesting.

Unsigned and waiting for the phone to ring. After this latest injury, no team will rush to sign Sam without some assurance that the ACL is not simply healed, but can endure punishment.

Having said this it wouldn't surprise me either if the Rams redo his contract somehow and keep him around with tons of injury clauses that protect the team. The reason I didn't select that option is that I have a suspicion we'll have a new OC next year who is a QB guru and can develop a new player into an NFL QB

    Go Rams!

Re: My Last Sam Bradford Thread of 2014

I like a lot of us have most likely ran through a few scenarios for Sam. Here's mine.

Ask Sam to take pay cut in the form of a two year extension incentive based new deal. Draft a top tier QB to work behind Bradford.

    End results:

Sam says no to a pay cut and we cut him and wish him well. Either start the rookie or have him play behind Hill or someone like him until he's ready.

Sam says yes gets hurt again and the new era begins with either the rookie or have him play behind Hill or someone like him until he's ready.

Sam says yes and plays well and stays healthy for three years and earns a long term deal. We also have a legit young back up QB in place or trade him for a draft pick.

Sam says yes stays healthy but can't hold off the younger gun.

    I voted

Preparing to begin the season as the Rams' starting QB.... if he takes a pay cut.

I voted retired. The guy just cannot stay healthy. 4 out of 6 years. I do not even think he will be "ready" by Sept 1st of next year. If he invested wisely, he is set for life. I wish him well.

    Wise guy, eh!

Actually, in 2104, the starting QB will be Zarthar Negunium, the first openly extraterrestrial player to be drafted into the NFL.

I voted prepping to be our starting QB, but I think he will be in a QB battle with either Keenum or whoever we draft.

    Interesting results so far.

Of those who voted that Sam would still be the starter, I'm presuming that most feel that he will have signed a more cap-friendly (and, likely, short term) deal.

Re: My Last Sam Bradford Thread of 2014

I really hope he is cut at this point he needs to heal long term! I mean for a couple years... (That is the professional opinion of Doctor Lucious Bombay of the Bombay institute for Physical and Spiritual awareness's & Terrestrial Encounters Inc.) Sam would be best served to not play next year at all, and just given time to get his knees as ready to be able to hold up and not shred as possiable. So to me it means long term healing, if he does not do this I think he goes down again no matter where he is as starter or back up. He needs time to get it right or so it seems to me. I voted he will be a back up with another team, maybe.

This is what I've been thinking for a while. Sam's current contract is big bucks for one more year (2015). Sam has already gotten his guaranteed money, and hasn't really played up to what he's been paid (largely because of injuries). I am sure Bradford knows/feels this. Sam has learned the offensive scheme, and should be able to thrive in Schotty's O if he can stay healthy.

I don't see another team throwing a boatload of money at him in the near future. Sam probably has the best chance of success in St. Louis because of his familiarity with the players/playbook and coaching staff.

That said, Randart brings up a point that can't be entirely overlooked - Sam may need to take a longer period of time to heal completely. I'm not a doctor, but it does seem as if it would be harder to rehab the same injury in consecutive years.

I voted that Sam will be prepping to start in 2015, along with a pay cut obviously. If Sam can get healthy in time, this could be a win/win for both the Rams and Bradford. If Sam goes elsewhere, he'll have to learn a new offense with a new OC.

If he does go elsewhere, I just hope it isn't the Patsies. They could afford to wait a couple of years.

Brady's 37. Sam's 27. Yeah, I could see a New England signing. Plenty of time for Bradford to heal.

My thoughts exactly .. plus he's had experience in McDaniels' system. Hope it never happens!
