    My Minnesota reaction Chavous

Saw Chavous for several seasons here in Minnesota. The guy was completely invisible last season. He had a couple of very strong season here but got lost and seemed to decline in play. Most fans here feel his best days are well behind him and they are hoping for Arch to play the position here for the Vikings.

My personal opinion, there will be little drop off with Chavous, as I didn't feel Arch was all the good. Chavous can cover as he was a cornerback at one time. This part of the equation will be a major up-grade. I do feel we over-paid as I don't think he would have got that much attention. I am not liking the age of some of these players we have grabbed thus far. But, the youth movement didn't work either in St. Louis.

I think we did over pay, there are a couple of good Safeties in FA and we threw money at the first guy we met,he is better in coverage than Arch so he is an upgrade there and he has always been a capable tackler
but I would have liked us to meet with,Milloy,Williams,Hope

I hate it when Wraith puts in his 2 cents about players from up in his neck of the woods. He was right about the last guy and now I have to wonder about Chavous.

    Thanks alot Wraith....

To be honest, i think every Vikings player played worse then expected last year. Sharper got interceptions but that was about it. They were supposed to have a dominant defense but it never showed up. The DL was supposed to be godly, but that never happened. I will judge Chavous on his games as a Ram, but im not taking anything away from him from last season

he may be on decline but I still love the signing. He is a very smart man also. Especially when he was on NFL Total Access talking about the Draft and all. He could seriously help our Front Office out

I didn't say a whole lot bad about Chavous. I think we won't lose a beat from what Arch brings to the table. The veteran help and leadership will help a lot. We just over paid and I think we just the gun with him a little bit.

    Re: My Minnesota reaction Chavous

Unfortunately with every team having new money this Free Agency, the plan is to not let guys leave your town without signing them, which requires a bit of overpaying. You can say that he might not have drawn that much interest elsewear, but what happens when you want to bring in some other guys too and eventually they are all off the market. The Rams needed to jump the gun a little bit this year instead of being patient. They targeted guys they knew could upgrade the positions, brought them in for a look, and signed them.

Half the problem with our D has been coaching anyways, so Haslett should have been able to get more out of these guys without the upgrades, so he should definitely be able to make this work. Especially with Butler back at CB, and some youngsters (OJ, Carter, Bartell) heading into their 2nd year.

i think chavous will be fine despite his age and his previous stats in minnesota, he was productive and still remains a great coverage safety, something we needed for our D

I agree with you all, Chavous will bring a new coverage dimension to the field. But if it was a cover guy we were after, I think Hope would have been the more worth going out and making a serious run at.

In my opinion Chavous is the most balanced of the two. Between Hope and Chavous I'd choose Chavous!
