My problem with rivera
I think rivera would be a great fit for someone, i think he is ready to be a head coach. However, i dont like the idea that he showed up for his interview with no plans for our offense and no ideas as to what he would do regarding a coordinator. By all reports, linehan has a full plan in mind and an acceptable coordinator picked out.
I dont see how we can take a guy who is focused only on one side of the ball. I appreciate that rivera would help the defense a lot, but our offense if very strong and we must maximize its potential, not ignore it.
I think that linehan is a better choice.

Re: My problem with rivera
Problem is however....I believe (not sure, only speculating) Linehan will pick Ted Cottrell, Minnesota's x-defensive coordinator. Who in my opinion is no better than Marmie, if not worse. That scares me.

Re: My problem with rivera
Questions for RamWraith:
1.) What is the basis for your speculation Linehan wants T. Cottrell?
2.) Where did Cottrell coach before he worked at Minnesota?
3.) Why would you think T. Cottrell would be worse than Marmi-lade? I believe the Vikings D. was substantially better than anything the Marm-ster has ever done.
I would appreciate your response.

Re: My problem with rivera
Wasn't Cottrell in Buffalo for a while, or am I mixing that up with something else?

Re: My problem with rivera
rambruce--
Here is the stuff I found on Cottrell
http://www.vikings.com/coach_detail_..._cottrell.html
As far as personal opinion. I have watched the Vikings for several years under Cottrell control and have not been impressed with his defenses over the last several years, and neither were the Vikings as he was the first to go under the new regime.
My speculation that he would take Cottrell is that it is someone he has worked very closely with and they have a very good relationship it appeared when they were here in Minnesota. I have heard several times from the Minnesota media that in Linehan got a head job, their speculation is that Ted would end up with Linehan.

Of course, Linehan didn't have a team in the playoffs either, so he probably had more time to think about this kind of stuff. Whereas Rivera was involved in planning for a post-season run to a championship. That's not an excuse, but it should be taken into consideration that one guy might be more prepared because he's better able to devote his time/energy to the task.
I would think that could be why Rivera would get a second interview.

Fair point nick. As always, you are the voice of reason, a steadying influence on the turbulent seas on which rams nation sails these days.

Re: My problem with rivera
Second interviews asside I tend to agree with GC. I'm not sold on Rivera. At the same time I'm not sold on Linehan, but between the two, I am leaning in his favor.
Linehan would be a sentimental favorite for me as well. He hails from my neck of the woods and I watched him play many a game, at the Kibbe Dome, under the direction of the Dennis Erickson led Vandals.
