I can't imagine Cortland Finnegan returning on his current contract given his play this year. Perhaps if he agreed to a pay cut he might be back, as I think he is one of Fisher's favorites, but otherwise, I'd say he's gone.

One of the more obvious choices seems to be Roger Saffold. Contract year, replaced at LT by Jake Long, constantly fighting an injury, and arguably being replaced by Joe Barksdale.

Another might be Harvey Dahl though. He commands a considerable salary, and pretty much guarantees at least one penalty a game. Our o-line is improving considerably, but I could see us going in another direction next year.

Harvey Dahl - Age, upside, youngsters waiting in the wings and cap dollars will all conspire against him.

Wells is a goner. I believe it is Barrett Jones job to lose next season.

That's the conventional theory. I'm not sure he doesn't move to RG and they draft a center to replace Wells. There are 4 really decent centers in this draft that have NFL attributes. Jones was one of the nations best RGs when he played the position.

It will be interesting to see if Jones gets a start or two at the end of the season. That would certainly signal a changing of the guard (or center).

Re: Name a Ram who will not be back in 2014

I will agree with General Counsel that I believe that Isaiah Pead will not be around next year. Given the status of Zac Stacy for Sunday and Jeff Fisher is unwilling to name Pead but rather names Cunningham speak volumes in my book.

I must disagree with AV on Cortland Finnegan. I think Jeff wanted him here partly for his defensive toughness, but also to be a Fisher evangelist in the locker room. Fisher is a smart coach and he knew coming in here he needed a player to be his advocate in the locker room, and also a translator. Someone who could interpret what Fisher means when he speaks to the players and help spread the gospel where needed among players who were both unfamiliar with Fisher as well as the NFL. Finnegan is that player and Jared Cook was added this year, although not for that purpose.

The other reason Finnegan is likely to be around is his contract. While I do agree with AV that he's likely to get restructured to free up cap space, I have to think 2 years into a 5 year deal would create an enormous cap hit. That same reasoning may apply to Wells who is only 2 years into a 4 year deal as I recall.

Bottom line Pead is likely on the Mardy Gilyard train.

I considered that too. He is definitely a leader in the locker room, and is in position to transition the younger players into key roles while teaching them the ropes and keeping them in line.

So he is going to be an overpaid player coach? I loved his play last year. I don't know what changed, but I hate seeing him on the field this year. Not sure which is worse, the penalties or the getting burned...

Oh, and yeah, Pead is history. It would not surprise me to see it happen before the end of the year.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I could see Johnson starting next year if he plays up to the responsibility. Finnegan's contract might ultimately keep him here next year, too.

Finnegan has looked about as bad as you can look this season. On the defensive side he's a weak link for sure.

Nail in the Coffin: Kellen Clemons, Isaiah Pead
Thin Ice: Harvey Dahl, Scott Wells, Cortland Finnegan, Rodger Saffold

Note: Never draft a player from the University of Cincinnati unless he's a big once in a lifetime prospect.
