Newson activated, shivers waived

According to an article just posted on the Post-dispatch site, the rams have activated tony newson and waived shivers, the first draft pick from this year to be cut. Apparantly, shivers, who was labeled a steal in round 5, did not pick up the defense very well. Aeneas probably doesnt have more than another 5 years before retirement, so at some point we will need to find a potential replacement, but i guess it wont be shivers.

I think you're being pretty generous. I'd give him three max, but I hope I'm wrong.

Anyways, I was very optimistic about Shivers so this is discouraging to me. Hopefully they're able to either put him on the practice squad or, well, I guess that's about it.

I hope this isn't another case of giving up on a young player too soon. Although, our defense is about as basic as it gets. If he can't understand our vanilla brand then he doesn't have much hope picking up anywhere else.

What a shame. I thought he was going to be an impact player early. Oh well.
