In next year's draft, the Rams' first round pick should be...

    an OT!!!

My second choice for the first pick is an OT!!!

or, perhaps, we should consider an OT!!!

Agreed. Of course it should depend on the draft board, but I'd like our draft to look something like:

    1. OT
    2. MLB
    3. C
    4. SS
    5. QB
    6. CB
    7. DT

I'll say this, if we are picking 8th or 9th and somehow a guy like Matt Stafford/Vontae Davis falls in our laps and we instead draft the only OT left (presumably) Eugene Monroe before the drop off, I will LOSE it. Oher/Smith are the elite ones, but Monroe has struggled mightily this season and is not looking good. It looks as if he could tumble to end of the first or early second. If we pick in the middle first round, again, go for best available and don't reach for a guy like Loadholt who is suited for RT in the NFL.

"Reaches" aren't always a bad thing Bald...

Donnie Avery - "Reach," now the MMQB offensive player of the week.

Sam Baker - "Reach," now playing a darned good LT for the surprising Falcons. I'm really sorry he was reached for and we didn't get a chance for him.

I think its safe to say that the "All Reach Team" could probably win the Super Bowl.

The Rams need to improve the OL. Its PRIORITY #1. The fastest way is to improve the OT play. Besides, Pace is not exactly a spring chicken.

I'm sorry, I think you made an error in the thread title. This is the St. Louis Rams message board right? Isn't is supposed to say "With the 1st overall pick the Rams should select".

I agree. OT first. Pace is old and fragile, Barron is (still! after several years, can you believe it?) driving us all crazy with stupid untimely penalties, he has a fricking penalty just about every game.

We also HAVE to get another legitimate safety on this team. Who here seriously thinks Chavous has any gas left in the tank? The tank is empty and the wheels are falling off.

The third need is a center, we have tried several players out there, but I'm not sure we've seen anyone who's a legitimate longterm solution yet.

Top three needs as I see them right now:

    1. OT
    2. SS
    3. C

Good post. I'm not sure what MLB's will be available in the free agency though....

We do need a new OT and Center. I'll agree with that. As for the defensive pick, I don't know what we go for. SS or MLB. Both are pressing needs.

Re: In next year's draft, the Rams' first round pick should be...

We could try to sign Birk for center, and draft either an OT or MLB for the 1st round, then the position we didn't sign will be for the second round, then a strong safety in the third, followed by maybe a quarterback that can be mobile in the fourth and a TE in the fourth.

    1st: OT or MLB
    2nd: OT or MLB
    3rd: SS
    4th: QB
5th: TE or CB or DT

The Bengals, are still part of the league, they're not kicked out yet...

Depending on FA acquisitions, this will obviously change, but I think we can go in a route like this for the draft:

    1- OT
    2- OT or WR
    3- MLB
    4- OT
    5- QB
    6, 7-Depth at OT, DL

Always and Forever a fan of the St. Louis Rams

There are always good reaches, but it is canceled out by bad reaches as well. It is either or, this past draft had bad reaches like Gosder Cherilus and Derrick Harvey. What I am preaching is that the Rams are a team that isn't loaded at every position (clearly), our only set position is RB. We have question marks everywhere, therefore we can't afford to reach on players just because it represents our greatest need. We need to get the best player available in Round 1 if we pick mid-round especially and lose out on the elite tackles. However, if we have our chance at either Oher or Smith, I am obviously all for that!

The Browns had a pressing need at QB in 2007, but opted for Joe Thomas feeling he was the better player than Quinn and would also anchor their line for the next decade. When Quinn fell, they quickly scooped him up. It shows that you could also be rewarded for smart moves, because had they taken Quinn then Thomas would've been gone in the next two picks, not taken at 22 like Quinn.
