NFL DRAFT: With 75th pick, Rams select TRE MASON (RB, Auburn)

Rams spent a first round pick on Tavon Austin last year, then drafted his teammate in Stedman Bailey in the third.

They've done it again, spending a first round pick on Greg Robinson, only to draft his teammate in Tre Mason in the third.

Reunited, and it feels so good!

    Discuss the pick here!

Interesting move. Seems like a great complimentary back to Stacy. I wonder where this leaves Pead...

Amazing complementary piece to Stacy, great player and explosive RB, but a bad fit IMO. Brian Schottenheimer has MAJOR limitations. How on earth is he going to design plays for Tavon Austin and Tre Mason and still get Stacy 20 carries..?

The guy is talented but our OC scares the hell out of me.

Great pick. Give Stacy 15-18 carries and Mason 10-12. Running behind Long, Saffold and Robinson...

Sosa, we are going to pound the ball over and over. We need another guy, assuming that Pead and Richardson arent the answer, and this guy has terrific talent and explosiveness. I dont think you need to do anything fancy to get him the ball. He has home run potential with the ball in his hands, an excellent compliment to Zac. I wonder if we would have taken the usc center/guard had the whiners not grabbed him 5 picks ahead of us. It appears the rams brain trust didnt have an obvious pick here.

317 carries 1816 yards and 23 TDs last year alone! He did that behind the big guy Robinson. We have a stable of young backs let the cream rise to the top!

I think the key point here is that coach didnt think richardson or pead was realiable/good enough to be the complimentary guy. If you are going to run the kind of offense we obviously are going to run, you cant really on one guy only to carry that kind of load without running a real risk of him wearing down badly, and zac isnt the biggest guy in the world. I dont see how anyone can dispute the kid's talent and explosiveness.

Love the pick and what he'll contribute to the run game. I think D Rich is gone for sure. Pead offers something on special teams and is more likely to stick around than DRich.

Stacy was frequently nicked up last year - a season in which he really only played 12 games. He has a bruising style of running (mostly between the tackles), and he's not a physical specimen comparable to Steven Jackson.

So, for those who see him as the "answer," I think you're asking too much of the guy.

Stacy should be the starter going into 2014. But, in my opinion, he should be a 15-18 carries/game guy. That means that the Rams will need to have somewhat of a committee approach. Whether Stacy's backup, Bennie Cunningham, is up to the task of being the No. 2 back is debateable. In my opinion, the Rams should bring in another back to compete (I'd look in Rounds 3-5 for a good value/fit).
And, my RB rankings (with the round the Rams should start looking:

Not to worry. Our new offense / new players will educate Schotty.
