If you look at the numbers we DID NOT give up anything in terms of value, this was a masterful trade.

Outside occasionally, but I don't think he can operate from there primarily. I'm expecting him to run 60-70% of his routes from the slot ala Welker, Amendola, and '10-'11 Harvin.

Can't wait to see Cook clearing out the middle on a deep seam route while Austin gets a short drag over the middle with lots of open field to run.

This kid walked out on the stage tonight with a confidence and swagger that impressed even Deion Sanders.

He looks like he could make an immediate impact from any position; slot, wide-out, half-back, returner. Rams going from a workhorse backfield (Steven Jackson) to maybe a backfield by committee (Richardson, Pead, Austin, and ???)

If anything, the kid should be fun to watch.

One thing that just occurred to me: if you're a Madden player, the Rams just got quite a bit more fun.

Given the trade BACK with the Falcons, this was a gun trade for the Rams.

I hope Tavon Austin wins me over because right now I am not even remotely happy about this. Ill give him his day in court though cause he certainly isnt going anywhere.

    Jim Thomas ‏@jthom1 now

The 2015 pick the Rams sent to Atlanta, was the seventh rounder they picked up in the Greg Salas trade to New England on Sept. 1.

This looks very promising and we really did not give up too much. I will (as always) await the on field product before we can judge this guy. hopefully he moves along much more quickly then the guy we got last year named QUICK.

So for nicknames, I got The T.A., Tiny, Biggie play Smalls, or Tavon Awesome. Any other ideas?

Same as all the players from last years draft:

    Rookie until he proves himself.

Madden just got INSANE is what you mean.....

Givens has been lighting it up for me on offense already. I then added Cook when we picked him up and having a tight end that can catch like that has been amazing. Then you add in T.A. this is a FAST team.

For those that dont know Cook at 6'5" ran a faster forty than Amendola at 5'10".....

I remember a player saying its a straight track meet going on in St Louis back in the GSOT days well now it is literally going to be a track meet between Tavon's 4.34, Givens 4.41, and Cook's 4.49 forty.

I'm loving this pick. The Rams had to do something to jump start the offense, and Austin fits the bill. He's a burner with amazing moves, who can line up virtually anywhere, and he'll be a nightmare to opposing defenses. He'll light it up on returns as well.

Re: NFL DRAFT: Rams trade up to 8th overall and draft TAVON AUSTIN (WR, WVU)

I'm not thrilled about this pick for one simple reason. I just don't see him like a traditional wide receiver that is constantly on the field. I see him more of a Darren Sproles. He isn't consistently on the field during a game, but when he is and he gets the ball in his hand he is amazing. And I'm just not that thrilled about giving up a 2nd round pick on a player that won't always be on the field on offense. Now I will be fair and give him a chance to prove himself. And who knows maybe I'm wrong and he'll constantly be on the field.
