Nfl Europe National Player Assigned To Rams

By ClanRam Staff

The St. Louis Rams have been assigned G Peter Heyer as part of the NFL International Development Practice Squad program, the team announced today.

Heyer, 6-3, 310, saw action this past NFL Europe season for the Rhein Fire, starting in five of the six games he played. As one of NFL Europe's national players, Heyer will spend the entire 2004 season on the Rams' practice squad. The native of Germany will also not be eligible to be claimed by another team or promoted to an active roster.

"This program is a major step in our development of international players," said NFLEL Senior Director of Football Operations Nick Polk. "We are very excited about seeing how these players progress mentally and physically during an intense few months with their NFL teams."

Heyer played in the last six games of the Fire's season, starting the last five, after he played in nine games for the fire in 2003. After the 2003 season, Heyer was in training camp with the New Orleans Saints. In 2002, Heyer played in all 10 games for the Fire.

"For Peter, as for all of these guys, this is going to be a great opportunity to receive intensive coaching," said Cologne Centurions' offensive assistant and former St. Louis Rams' guard Tom Nütten. "The most important thing for them will be the opportunity to work on their technique, and I would expect them all to come back to Europe as much improved players."

In college, Heyer won the German Football League championship in 2000 as a member of the Cologne Crocodiles, and was a European champion with the German national team in 2001. Heyer has also represented the Team Europe junior all-star squad in the annual Global Junior Championship played ahead of the Super Bowl.

The other three players who were assigned are S Richard Yancy to the San Francisco ***** (Germany, Rhein Fire), DE Christian Mohr to the Seattle Seahawks (Germany, Berlin Thunder), and G Rolando Cantu to the Arizona Cardinals (Mexico, Berlin Thunder).
