    NFL Maps

For some reason I'm really interested in maps of the NFL franchises and how the divisions are split, there are some good maps out there that show how the NFL could split its divisions in a more geographically equal way.

I stumbled across this map which shows where different teams fans come from.

I was a bit annoyed that the guy who posted it had not given the Rams any fanbase in California.

    Hull, Yorkshire & England

The Rams had enough of a fan base in LA to have local TV stations air all their pre-season games up until a few years ago, when the Faiders whined that LA was their market.

Looks to me like that map is just localized. It's not very insightful and of very little value to me.

i mean i guess it's just showing the predominant fan per region, though there are still plenty of rams fans in southern california...raider fans are EVERYWHERE

Obviously with not being from the US I probably find it more interesting than the majority of you guys.

It's interesting that you would be unable to produce a map like this for the English Premier League, mainly because England is such a geographically small country.

    Re: NFL Maps

Tiger, there's a few different issues. One, teams have grown up and moved in the last couple generations. For instance, the Tennesee Titans used to be the Houston Oilers. Well, there's probably people in Houston who still follow the Titans as "their team," despite there being a new franchise. Not so much with the ex-Browns/current Ravens, but the same happened there.

Rams and Raiders moved, new teams in Jacksonville, Carolina in the not too distant past.

Plus there's the fact that we live in an age of mass mobility and so people who were born in Los Angeles travel to live in Virginia, New York and Kentucky, and then wear their horns proudly on their cars in "Bengals" territory, which is already loaded up with Colts, Titans and Steelers fans. So there's no good way to really portray where fans come from other than likely their local area.
    I believe!
