NFL's Most Underrated: St. Louis Rams
NFL's Most Underrated: St. Louis Rams
David Vobora
Height: 6’1
Weight: 239
College: Idaho
Drafted: 7th Round (252 Overall)
Experience: 3rd Season
Stats
2009 – 10 GS, 46 tackles, 2 PDEF, 1 FF
2008 – 1 GS, 15 tackles
Why He Is Underrated
David Vobora has come a long way in his short NFL career. After being Mr. Irrelevant(Last pick in the 2008 NFL Draft), after just 1 season he has earned the Rams starting strongside LB spot. Many people don’t know his name mostly in part because he plays for the Rams. It’s a lot easier to find underrated players from teams like the Rams because in most fans eyes, nearly everyone is underrated. Even Steven Jackson doesn’t get the credit he deserves at times.
Vobora, as mentioned above, was the starting SLB for the Rams this year and he did not disappoint. His best asset is his athleticism and it showed in many games. However, he was suspended for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing substance policy just 3 weeks into the season. Many questions were raised but ultimately Vobora claims he took a supplement which contained banned substances that we’re not shown on the label. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, as have the Rams. When he came back from suspension he quickly filled in his old starting spot.
He was outstanding against the run for the Rams and was by far their best LB. Even better then highly touted LB prospect James Laurinaitis. In fact, according to ProFootballFocus, he was the Rams best defender. A long way from the last pick in the 2008 draft. And still that was only his first season starting. He has worked hard thus far this off-season and will once again be starting for the Rams. He has tons of potential and he will only get better for the Rams who look to have a great, young core in place at LB. That is why he is the Rams most underrated player.Last edited by HUbison; -07-12-2010 at 06:27 PM.

Re: NFL's Most Underrated: St. Louis Rams
I hadn't read the end of that post till just now. Wow to say he is better than james is laughable how bout saying he was the best defender period was hilarious. do they not relize that oj is on this team? He is one of the top safeties and has been a ball hawk for us. To say vobora is our best defender is really as I see it a kick in the teeth. Considering he may not even be starting this year with diggs and the carpenter comin in.

I can agree that Vorbora is underrated, but please seriously...J.L. is the future of our defense.

I will give credit to Vobora. He's come a long way, and has played very well consideing he was Mr. Irrelevant.
With that being said, Laurinaitis was probably 3x better than him last year.

Unless this was written by one of our defensive coaches or Spags himself, I'll take it with a grain of salt. It's a nice plug for an underdog but that's all it is in my book.

I had to read the last bit about 4 times to see if my glasses hadn't indeed been foggy.
This just has to be from lack of research about the Rams.
I guess when your a bad team people don't bother even using google on you...

Re: NFL's Most Underrated: St. Louis Rams
Sorry guys, I've been gone for a bit so I just saw the responses now.
Anyways, I think you guys misunderstood what I was trying to say. I didn't say he was the best defender. According to ProFootballFocus he is though. I don't know if you guys are familar with the site. They breakdown every play and have in-depth stats and the players are rated on their performances. He has a higher rating than Laurinaitis mainly because Vobora was better against the run. Granted he missed a lot of time so those numbers could be a lot different for a 16 game season.
Laurinaitis may, and will be, the better all round player. I was just trying to show that Vobora is a damn good player too and should be more respected by NFL fans around the league. I hope that clears some of it up lol

It also doesn't take into account the fact that teams looked to specifically block Laurinaitis, but no one would bother to do the same with Vobora

I think Laurinaitis is the clear cut better player.
