No complaints about Bruce's contract now?
I for one am excited that Bruce signed and had no doubt he would be back. I think we gave him a good deal, he's worth it.
With that being said many people here were saying that Bruce should take the 3 year 9 mil contract. We shouldn't pay any more for Bruce, he should take it or walk, but it looks like most everyone is happy he signed and not much talk about us overpaying for him. Interesting.

Re: No complaints about Bruce's contract now?
That doesn't make sense. We just added 7.5 mil to our cap because of the new CBA. Also the new contract will pay Bruce 6 mil this year, in the contract he turned down it would have paid him 5 mil this year so it's only a difference of 1 mil.

With the new coaching staff I for one, really did not know if Bruce was going to be here. I did not want and never spent too much time thinking about Bruce in any other Uni.I for one am excited that Bruce signed and had no doubt he would be back. I think we gave him a good deal, he's worth it.
As for Linehan this would have been a bad start for him, to cut a guy like Bruce. He was not asking for the world, so it would have been a PR nightmare for our new HC. Linehan came through big time. He said he wanted him and he was very confident they get it done, and they did! This goes along way with me just not lips service.
Bruce is going into the HOF one day and I want that to be a day for us Rams fans to celebrate with Bruce. For me that’s includes not watching any high lights of him making catches in any other gear.
I’m not complaining, he got a good deal and he should he deserves it.

Love the guy, but cost us way too much. There goes at least one more free agent we could have brought in, and took us out of the hunt for any big names.

The way he has been talking about the subject, I don't believe it is.

Re: No complaints about Bruce's contract now?
The value of anything is impacted by market forces - football players included.
When I learned the new CBA was signed, I posted a thread stating that I believed the Rams should offer more money to Bruce (my suggestion, $6m/$3m/$3m was not all that far off the mark).
That does not mean that the original offer was unfair. At a cap level of $94 million, it was a fair and appropriate offer by the Rams.
With the cap now at $102 million, the Rams could afford to offer more, and were smart to do so.
Its a win-win situation.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: No complaints about Bruce's contract now?
I think resigning him was pretty stupid. Waste money that can be used to reinforce the defense on an over-the-hill reciever who is just barely overshadowing a future pro-bowler in Curtis. Bruce being resigned means he will most likely will get the start which means Curtis is leaving, unless he is as dumb as our FO is.

Re: No complaints about Bruce's contract now?
I think resigning Bruce was a very smart thing. Yes, he is getting older, but he still has a few years left before he is ready to hang up his jersey for good. Bruce is still a big threat to our opponents, and with a QB like Bulger, his almost supernatural ability to run routes will continue to help us move the ball.
If I follow this cap thing right, we still have $21 million or so of money to spend. (PLEASE correct me if I am wrong - this cap crap isn't easy to figure out! I'd rather do the math on Amp ratings for a 211 KW generator!!!!) If the $21M is close to right (even after signing Glover) then we can still pick up a couple of more impact FA's (not big name, big money FA's) and match offers on Curtis and Pickett....maybe Arch, too.
Linehan said our O was pretty solid, but our D sucked. What good would it do to rebuild our D and let one of our best WR's go to pay for it? Yes, defense can win games...but if we can't get some numbers on the scoreboard, a good D won't help much.
The Rams did the right thing. The proof will be seen in the upcoming season.Super Bowl Champions 2013!
