    No defensive coordinator?

I know this may seem a tad harsh and rash, but last year we had less talent and through 3 games we seem like the old rams we all know. It is odd that the year we have no coordinator at all besides a joint one (few coaches input) we are one of the leagues best. The year we get an actual coordinator we are garbage.......So with that in mind is it time to fire our coordinator and go back to what we had last season?

What is Tim Walton doing that Jeff Fisher doesn't want him to do?

schemes....soft coverage, no bueno in the nfl unless it's stopping a hail mary...

D needs to be aggressive not passive and giving up free yards

rather get burned every once and a while than just giving them 5-6 yards every play

It is odd, but I'd be careful with the blame game. Correlation does not always equal causation. Walton may be the newest piece to the staff, but he isn't the only chef in the kitchen here.

Regardless of specific blame, this is a poorly coached team throughout. And we all know who the leader is.

    Re: No defensive coordinator?

Fisher was a defensive player, he was a DC, and nothing is being done on defense that he doesn't know about, or rubber stamp. I don't know which is more perplexing, the 10 yard cushion given to opposing receivers, or running a base defense the entire game against a running back having a career day.

I think the OP does have a interesting take on this though......We were not this bad on defense last year and I think many of us expected us to be better this year.

    Where is Long?
Why do we play so soft with Jenkins?
Our LB's do not cover well out of the back field
3rd down stops are hard to come by
    tackling poor
    bad angles
    etc etc

I for one expected a top 12 ish defense coupled with a much improved offense. I hope it still is to come.....

again, scheme's can hinder even the best players

you have to have the right schemes...and a ton of cushion for opposing receivers is not good for anyone

    Re: No defensive coordinator?

I don't know what the answer is but this much is obvious: The Rams are playing piss poor defense. It is nowhere near good enough to win. They've allowed 3 QB's to pass for over 300 yards and the run defense (making Dallas' Murray look like Jim Brown) was no better on Sunday. They've allowed over 30 points the last two games and have been behind in all three games early, including the last two where they've been blown out by halftime. Other than Quinn, the defensive line (Long specifically) has been invisible for long stretches. Finnegan looks terrible. And the scariest part is that the defense was supposed to be one of the Rams' strong suits. Haven't seen it yet. And it better improve, or we're in for a long season.

    Re: No defensive coordinator?

I don't want blame Walton fully, but just because it's Fisher's style defense doesn't mean he doesn't give Walton autonomy to call plays/scheme within that system. In addition how do the players respond to Walton?

We’re working technique. We’re working fundamentals. We’re working communication. We’re working scheme. We’re doing everything.”
Jeff Fisher says they are doing everything? Go figure?

    Re: No defensive coordinator?

Does anyone think Walton changed the defensive scheme, or is running a scheme or calling plays that Fisher hasn't approved? Walton spent the last couple years in Detroit playing under Schwartz, who was Fisher's DC in Tennessee for ages. He's coming from a coaching tree that uses the same scheme. It's not like we brought Singletary or Rob Ryan in here and we're using something completely different from a year ago.

We don't know how much freedom Walton has during the game. Best guess is that Fisher gives him most if not all the control during the game. Fisher says they are doing everything. I guess they are? I guess they are knowledgeable enough? It's just not evident on the field!!

Which makes this backslide even more perplexing for me.
