No Show: Local TV viewers won't see Rams preseason opener

    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    08/15/2007

Unless they're planning to come to the Edward Jones Dome to watch in person, Rams fans here wanting to see Saturday night’s preseason game against the San Diego Chargers are out of luck.

Several thousand tickets remained late Wednesday afternoon, and team officials confirmed that a sellout wasn’t possible by the 7 p.m. deadline. That means that the game won’t be televised locally.

NFL rules mandate that all games -– preseason and regular season –- must be sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff to

It would be nice if they'd waive that rule for preseason as a way of helping generate interest in this year's team. I'd imagine there are a lot of blackouts in the preseason since people know the starters won't be playing long.

Does that mean the game will not be shown on the Internet also?

Not necessarily. It all depends on where the person who is sharing the game lives.

Soooo true! Excellent argument. That would even generate interest for the fans of every NFL team!

The thing to remember about the blackout rule is that if you don't live in or around St. Louis then it won't effect you at all. It's just a way they try to sell tickets.

If you lived in St. Louis and the game was blacked out, it would still show up as being on your TV. It's just when you turn the channel on you'll get a message saying that the game isn't being shown in your area.

That sucks...even for pre-season. I remember when the Hawks couldn't sell out a game to save their life. And I couldn't see a game because I was too poor to afford tickets, so I got to see 8 games a year. It was hard times, but the devil (Ken Behring) sold the team to Mr. Allen, and well, we are where we are now, and the stadium is sold out with a waiting list for season tickets for the forseeable future. So I'm with you on this, I hate that stupid NFL blackout rule. It is one of the worst ever. You would think that the NFL would want as many people to see their product as possible, so they would put it on in as many markets as possible.

And the Cardinals' resurgence into the NL playoff race sure doesn't help...

Yes, but not in St Louis because they didn't sell enough tickets so it will be blacked out in that area.

the price of preseason football tix is a joke. Its clearly not the same product, why should fans be expected to pay the same money?

That being said, this is yet another example that the rams are going to have to win to draw with the elite in the nfl. Its not the packers, giants, chiefs, redskins etc. The rams are an awful long way from having a ten year waiting list for season tickets.

    ramming speed to all
