Re: No tape of the Rams Walk through?
There's something fishy going on here. I wonder if Bill Belichick and the Patriots were a bottom feeder in the NFL if this would be handled differently?

Re: No tape of the Rams Walk through?
...perhaps the Rams just lost the game? Tape or no tape, it's over and done with. Our defense gagged in the biggest game of the year, and the Patriots marched down the field and scored without the help of any video. The best team doesn't always win, and on that day, it surely didn't.

Oh come on! I'm not a big fan of Lovie or the prevent for that matter, but the defense played well in that game. They only gave up the one TD, which was a hell of a catch and back line dance by patten.
Lovie did call for the blitz on the final drive and we had brady sacked yet he threw the ball in the turf. Had the official done his job and called intentional grounding the game goes to OT.
Whatever, so sick of Rams fans whining about this game. Guys, for the umpteenth time - football is a TEAM game. The TEAM screwed up all day long and lost.
End of story!

Re: No tape of the Rams Walk through?
I hate the media reaction to these tapes. As though knowing what defensive signals are used to signal in plays doesnt help. When you know what the defense is going to run, I think thats a big advantage.
If you look back at the Patriots during their Super Bowl years, there is a strange trend. They are really good when playing an opponent for the second time. I cant even remember the last time the patriots lost a rematch except for the Super Bowl.
These tapes were clearly a big part of why the Patriots won those Super Bowls. I dont know if you can strip them of those titles, but this is blatant cheating and something a little more severe than a fine and the loss of one draft pick needs to be handed down.

I'm wondering if there was more than an immunity deal.

Attention? I believe he was let go by the organization a while back so maybe he's bitter and just wanted to get his digs in. I do agree it's kind of a waste - all this Walsh talk, and the only thing he could provide were tapes of what the NFL already knew occurred.

Along with "attention" how about money? Next he'll be writing a book not to mention interviews after the whole procedure is over .. Just a guess ..

Definitely a possibility, especially if the NFL and Patriots made an agreement to not legally go after him based upon his knowledge or evidence. That could really open the doors for a tell-all book.

Re: No tape of the Rams Walk through?
I actually purchased the tape that Walsh had taken of the Rams' practices. I plan to release it the day before the playoffs this January.

These are great points, but if Walsh was going after attention or money, he sure took a hell of a chance that the situation would work out in his favor and not adversly affect the lives of he and his family. It all still makes me wonder.

The patriots will not receive any additional punishment. The league is pretending like they knew everything that came out, and buried the Rams walkthrough

Re: No tape of the Rams Walk through?
It's worth noting that these tapes only go back to 2006, but even the notes Goodell collected and subsequently destroyed when the scandal first broke dated back to at least 2002. Clearly, the tapes Walsh turned over are not anywhere near all of the tapes made. The frustrating thing is that it's so readily apparent that we don't have all the facts. We know the Patriots cheated, and those who knew about were unapologetic. We know the majority of the evidence was destroyed before it could possibly have been sufficiently analyzed (wasn't it less than 48 hours after the NFL received it?). If Walsh hasn't given an answer one way or another about the Rams walkthrough, I'd like to get a definitive answer yes or no from him. Maybe he has reasons to sensationalize all of this, but right now he's the only witness willing to say anything.

Re: No tape of the Rams Walk through?
"It's only cheatin' if you get caught" - by ingenuous cheater
It seems politics are involved with everything, so, let's try not to be naive here.
The NFL is a copycat league. I seriously doubt there are many, if any, deep, dark secrets among the fraternity of NFL coaches.
Eons ago, coaches would run players into the huddle to call plays. When that became too inconvenient we began to see signals.
On offense we saw the emergence of wireless communication through the coaches headset and the QB's helmet device. In the meantime the defense was left with the sideline signals or player substitutions to send in plays.
I'm sure everyone has notoced how the coaches cover their mouths with the play sheet while calling in plays to the QB. Gee, I wonder why? Do you suppose another team might try and cheat by employing the services of a lip reader to steal plays?
OMG - Alert the media - NFL scandal - Teams are trying to cheat!
Well, at least teams are not trying to steal the defensive signals, right?
Now - I'm certain some of you might not be aware of everything that was discussed at the 2007 owners meetings. One of the things they discussed and voted on was a rule change that would let one defensive player wear the wireless device. The vote was 22-10 in favor. However, the proposal needed a 3/4 owner approval to go into effect for the 2007 season. One of the more vocal opponents to this rule change was none other than Bill Bellichick. I suppose it was just a coincidence that Bill was busted at the start of the 2007 season. Yes, it had to be a coincidence.
And what happened at this years meetings? Yes, for the 2008 season the owners approve the use of the wireless communication device for one defensive player. So, everyone look for the defensive guy with the green dot on the back of his helmet.
Now I wonder what those video cam operators are going to do for a job? It would be a cryin' shame if they all had to be retrained on the use wireless eavesdropping equipment. Oh well, that's politics!
And...."It's only cheatin' if you get caught"

And i am sure they will be trained, numerous teams have complained that when playing the patsies the wireless devices sometimes quit working in crucial game situations.
