Re: Nominations for the 2012 ClanRam Wall of Fame
for me it came down to three players for this year...one RB already taken so i`ll knock ED out of this years vote..between Slater and Olsen..
I`ll go Merlin Jay Olsen
14 Pro Bowls during an era of many other great D-linemen.

Marc bulger. Uh I mean isaac bruce. He was a staple in our offense the whole time he was in the offense. Does anyone remember bruce dropping a ball I almost believe he had his entire career with straight completions. Bruce was instrumental in helping out holt to help him become a pro bowl player. He made holt look pretty good. And of course bruce had the td in the superbowl they wont catch him today will always stick in my memory. He never spoke out that I seen holt talked alittle bit but I never heard a word from the reverend. Guy was always a class act. Bruce if no one remembers is second in yards in a season in 1995 then he helped holt get to be ranked 5th and 9th all time in a season. Plus he is all time in receiving yards for the rams and 3rd behind jerry rice and t.o.

Well, I'd like to second that nomination. Still unsure what kind of list doesn't start with Merlin or goes three deep without him. I realize the overwhelming majority of current fans did not get to see Merlin play, but without Merlin the first guy probably wouldn't be on the list. Merlin was the anchor, the leader and the one that made the "Fearsome Foursome".
BTW, that's 14 consecutive pro bowls, 198 straight games and he played his entire career with our Rams.

Do we really need another d lineman up there right now. I know merlin was good but come on. We need some wide recievers and quarterbacks or maybe a o linemen like slater. We have Jones and Youngblood so we should look else where for a change.

How about Dick Vermeil. He led the Rams to their first superbowl win. He was an emotional coach who was willing to give anyone a chance. He was never afarid to show his emotions and also left us with one of the most memorable quotes in NFL history. "We will rally around Kurt Warner and we will play good football." That is my nomination for the next ClanRam wall of fame inductee.

Jackie Slater, 3 decades a ram. Very good player with it. (its him or bruce for me! But I plumped for JS)

Re: Nominations for the 2012 ClanRam Wall of Fame
For variety, let me nominate Tom Fears. He was well before my time but deserves mention among the Ram greats. Fears broke the season record for receptions in 1949 (with 77) and then broke his own record again in 1950 (with 84), setting the single game record (18 catches) against the Bears. In 1951, he was an important part of our second championship team when he took a 13-yard toss from Van Brocklin TD all the way for the score and broke a 17-17 tie. The Rams won 24-17.
According to Wikipedia, he was technically the first wide receiver in NFL history, since he was the first to line up at the line of scrimmage away from the tackle. Two fractured vertebrae limited his production from 1953 on, and by his last season with the team in 1956, he was limited to being an assistant coach. He went on to have a long but a little less illustrious coaching career in the NFL including another stint with the Rams in the early '60s.

Re: Nominations for the 2012 ClanRam Wall of Fame
Let me put it this way, if this induction business wasn't just started in the last couple of years Merlin Olsen would be in there already. I say he SHOULD of been and NEEDS to be in there.
I hereby nominate Merlin Olsen.
my close runner ups are:
1a. Jackie Slater
1b. Issac Bruce
1c. Eric Dickerson
1d. Henry Ellard

I'll go with Isaac Bruce, one of the best WRs of all time and made the catch that won the Rams their only Superbowl.

Re: Nominations for the 2012 ClanRam Wall of Fame
I thought long and hard about this and the post needs to be replied to.
My feelings are that Randy would not want his name on the wall of fame and I am sure his good friend Jack would back me up on this.
Randy was a great friend and helper to the ClanRam and I really miss him ............ AND I know he would be tickled pink to have had the honour to have been nominated.
He is in my personal wall of fame
