DANA POINT, Calif. -- The NFL safely avoided the NFC West in scheduling national prime-time openers and Thanksgiving games announced Monday.
Opening weekend carries an AFL theme with Tennessee, Buffalo, New England, San Diego and Oakland playing, along with the Super Bowl champion Steelers. The Bears and Packers, rivals for the better part of a century, also made the cut.
It's tough to blame the NFL and its TV partners for avoiding the NFC West. The Cardinals are NFC champions. They have marquee players on offense. But their only true two-way rivals are within the division. And we all know about the division.
The NFC South and NFC East were also shut out from national prime-time games in Week 1. The NFC East drew its usual Thanksgiving games involving the Lions and Cowboys.
Sept. 10: Titans at Steelers (NBC, 8:30 p.m. ET)
Sept. 13: Bears at Packers (NBC, 8:30)
Sept. 14: Bills at Patriots (ESPN, 7)
Sept. 14: Chargers at Raiders (ESPN, 10:15)
Nov. 26: Packers at Lions (Fox, 12:30)
Nov. 26: Raiders at Cowboys (CBS, 4:15)
Nov. 26: Giants at Broncos (NFL Network, 8:20)

That's absolute BS. Every NFL team should get ATLEAST one NFL Prime Time game, very ignorant of the NFL, they make enough money as it is. Why not let a smaller market team get the big game on Monday or Sunday night?

    This IRRITATES me big time!

They really need to balance it out. I feel like I'm always watching a Dallas game. Whether it's primetime or MNF, either which way, they need to spread out who gets nationally televised. It's the NFL...You won't really see that many awful games. You'll always find atleast one great player on every team to watch, if the football game is really that boring.

I understand it's a popularity contest most of the time, but atleast the Cards have shown that they deserve to be televised. This is really unfair.

If any teams from NFC WEST want to be on prime time - they need to be better teams and win a lot of games. They move those games...

These games are just the opening weekend and Thanksgiving, not the entire season, so we'll have to see how the rest of the prime-time schedule shakes out. That said, how do the Faiders, who field an absolutely horrible team year in, year out, rate a prime-time opener and a Thanksgiving Day game?? And speaking of Thanksgiving, it's time to end the rediculous "tradition" of having the Cowboys and Lions play every year.

2-14 Small market, what do you expect? The same goes for Seatle. How Arizona got a primetime spot last thanksgiving and didn't get anything coming off a Superbowl performance IDK. The whiners are a mediocre major market team, not really surprising either.

The Raiders have a large national fan base. That is why. As for Detroit and Dallas-look at it this way: I never have to choose between football and Thanksgiving Dinner. I (sort of) dread the year I have to learn if BW3 et al. are open or not on Thanksgiving.

I thought next year the NFL was going to have other teams, other than Dallas & Detriot play on Thanksgiving day?

theres still Sunday night games,I am sure Arizona will get a couple of those and maybe with some luck one of them will be against the Rams.We have no chance for a Monday night game but maybe the NFL will throw St. Louis a bone and give them Sunday nighter.

Re: Noone from NFC West likely to be on primetime

It's a joke the Lions will be guaranteed a primetime game, yet the NFC Champions may not even get one.
Goodell must look in to this. I've been losing faith in him ever since he messed up the Spygate stuff (I could ramble about that for a while, so I'll just leave it at that), and he really hasn't done anything to help that view.
Common NFL, get your head out of the Cowboy's franchise butt and those few others, and realize there are other teams with fans!

An active national fan base? They sure aren't showing their faces or spending their money because the Faiders rank at the bottom in terms of team value, profits and attendance in the NFL.

I agree that its shocking that the cards didnt get a spot. They are a defending superbowl participant and have TWO big time stars in fitz and captain kurt. Personally, i think the first game of every nfl season (thursday night game) should be a rematch of the super bowl.

Re: Noone from NFC West likely to be on primetime

Just the opening weekend and thanksgiving. I'm sure the Cards will get a few prime time games after Larry Fitzgerald's playoff performances. People that don't even like football too much might tune in to see Larry Fitzgerald do what he does.

There are only 2 games on that list of prime time games that actually look interesting. Steelers vs Titans and Patriots vs Bills because of the TO factor. Every other game includes mediocre teams and a team that is looking to be a mess next year in the Broncos.
