Notes from Bernie on Witherspoon, D-line, the Dome, size on D, Sean Taylor
On Witherspoon--
Haslett wants to keep him in the middle.
It could work but only if they have a couple of tankards at DT to keep the blockers off him and let him utilize his great speed to run free and make pursuit tackles.
I was standing in the hallway outside the Rams' locker room on Sunday as the players walked off the field and filed in. I was really struck by how thin Witherspoon is, how small he is, even in full pads. .... it's almost like playing a safety at the Mike position.

He's not close to 230... 215, maybe.

On the D-Line...
Glover would be more effective if he takes fewer snaps ... because of his age.
Wroten did little to distinguish himself this season and his work ethic is questionable at best.
--B
Behind the scenes at Rams Park, Haslett has been pushing for several months now about the need for two big DTs.
--B
On Dome Improvements--
They'll be soliciting marketing types .... to be contracted ... to spruce it up on game days.... also, some greatly enhanced video/scoreboard equipment is being installed.
I want two live Rams on the sideline.
March them up and down the side, and people will go nuts.
--B
On What they'll be looking at in the draft--
It's a little early for that ... I have no line on what they are thinking.
Linehan today said obviously they need to get better on defense against the run and that's a priority for free agency.

Bernie, are the Rams just too small on defense?
They don't have a big anchor at DT.
They don't have a plugger in the middle.
They don't have a thumper at strong safety.
Too small for sure.
--B
On Sean Taylor--
Jackson's 64-yard TD catch-and-run...
Jackson was thundering down the field, with only Taylor in his way, and Jackson put a little move on Taylor, and he bailed. He wanted no part of high-speed contact with No. 39.
I've covered the NFL for more than a quarter century and it was one of the funniest, most cowardly things I've seen in a game.

Sprucing up the Dome would be nice. I like the idea of Live Rams on the sideline.

i dont know if i can believe Bernie sometimes. Witherspoon is obviously much larger then 215. Maybe he just says stuff like that because he is used to looking in the mirror and taking 20lbs off what he sees.
And i think its easy for him to say the Rams need big DTs. Its probably the most obvious thing anyone could have said after looking at the defense.

the key in this thread if its to be believed is the "questionable at best" work ethic of wroten. Thats very very troubling.

Bernie in my opinion is the St Louis sports gossip columnists. I would rather listen to the espn monday night crew.
